MSI to VSA Converter
...Do you own hundreds of corporate MSI files that will need to be converted to the new Software Virtualization format this summer?
...Please welcome a Windows Installer Database (.MSI) to Virtualization Software Archive (.VSA) command-line bi-directional converter!
...Currently there *is* a MSI2XML conversion utility, along with an equivalent XML2MSI reconstruction utility. Can a juicy Altiris developer port this same functionality to convert hundreds of existing Windows Installer Database files to the new Software Virtualization format, which would save time in having to perform an Application Capture on all .MSI files, convert to a project file, and then recompile into the .VSA format using Wise Package Studio 7.x? This utility would be *extremely* useful if loaded with command-line options to export results to a log file, optionally convert to .XML, batch conversion of multiple .MSI files, etc.
...JUICY!

Also check out the latest version of SWS. You can stream MSI files directly into a layer.

I had this same thought a while back and actually started working on an app that would do the conversion, but I had never heard of SWS before. It looks like that does just what I am looking for. Very cool! Thanks
