Need to have an alert notification once a tape is half-way full.

It would be nice if Backup Exec generates an alert, notification once a tape is half-way full.  That way Backup Administrators do not have to login to each media server to check if they have sufficient tapes in the library or not.

Would the Job Test Run feature work for you?

Hello,

Thanks for the idea. We were wondering if you have tried the Job Test Run feature in Backup Exec 12.x and 2010. It is on the Job Setup tab and can be scheduled to be run ahead of your normal backups daily. The Job Test Run can be set to check for media space, credentials, media availability, etc before the real backup job runs to ensure a better chance for success. You can setup alerting and notification on the Test Run Job like your normal backup jobs to see if you have a relatively good chance at successful backup that night. The Test Run can look at past backup history for the amount of data you have backed up and compare that to available media.

If you have not tried a Test Run Job, please check it out. If you have, let us know what we can do to improve it to better meet your needs.

Thanks,

Pete

I will certainly try this on one of my 12.5 server.  I will update you accordingly.

Thanks for the quick response.
