We are managing alot of clients via netbackup, and some of them in a remote location. Without creating a media server (seeing as we'd have over 1400+ of these to have to manage) it would be nice if we could do a local full backup (especially in reference to a BMR image) that could have most of the data stored on an internal usb drive. Heck, i don't even mind if it was only allowed if you did a "second" backup copy and had to direct it there instead. The usefulness of this is that PXE boot restore over the wire could use the local usb data to help speed it along instead of taking a significantly long time over network.

If there is another product (like backupexec) that offers this instead, please let me know. My goal is to allow a replaced hard disk to get imaged with the last available backup.

Intriguing

There is a feature in NetBackup which called Instant Recovery which allows you to keep a snapshot around to use in a recovery scenario. But, Instant Recovery is not geared towards system recovery. What you are suggesting seems similar to what Backup Exec System Recovery offers.

Yep

I guess its just the request of Backup Exec System Recovery built into the same application base. I'm sure that would defeat the purpose of licensing both products but would make it simpler to coordinate. Perhaps building the same application into netbackup but billing it like an additional option?
