We are currently running : Symantec Netbackup Desktop and Labtop Option 6.1 MP4 (Build 350B14b)

Over the past few months since we updated to the new MP4 we have encountered various problems with the data restoration process.

Of which the most alarming happens when multiple restore jobs are sent to the same pc and become stuck in an endless loop.

Now there are actually three critical issues here :

1 : When multiple restorations are launched from the server to the same pc there exists the possibility that they will stay in constant data restoration loop.

2:  No errors or warning messages are displayed either on the client or erver.

3: The only way to "purge" the restore job is to delete the computer object/user profile. (which exposes you to risk complete data loss)  <-- This is what Symantec Supports suggests to correct the problem.

I have included a screen capture from the DLO Console after discovering that one of our client pc restoration was yet once again trapped in the endless restoration loop.

DLOrestoreissue1.jpg

As you can see there are 3 pending restore jobs in queue - on the client side, the restoration job finishes and starts again (over and over) giving no error or assurance that it has atleast completed one job correctly. Even if you cancel - the jobs persist, and as soon as you refresh the restoration process begins again into a loop.

My suggestion is simple : I request that there be a way to purge the jobs in queue.  (as you can see from the picture above, I have gone ahead and added where this button should be :) )

Thank you & Best Regards,

Luis Vazquez

BUG REPORT: Restore of user's Profile data to the user's desktop causes the restore to go into loop.

Details:
Bug: ET1898057

Detail / Symptom(s)

- A Restore is being attempted using the DLO Administration console.

- The first user's data is selected for restore as follows...

     C:\Documents and Settings\User1\*

- Now select the second user's data (same computer) for restore as follows ...

     C:\Documents and Settings\User2\*

- Use the default restore settings (original location / prompt, etc)

- The message is displayed on the DLO Administration console as the restore job is submitted.

- On the Agent machine, we first notice the prompt to overwrite certain files [1]

Image 1

- Then we see the Restore Status: Restore is running message [2]

- The very next message is the pop-up error [3] "Unspecified Error - Failed to reconcile restore jobs"

- If you choose to overwrite files then the restore begin looping.

- On the DLO administration server, under the Overview tab >> System Summary, we see Pending Restore:1 and the same restore job runs again and again on the Agent machine. (Refer Image 2)
