Hi,

How about an option in the "Backup, Archive & Restore" GUI to identify the size of the files & directories that you've selected? This could potentially be added to the existing feature that identifies the tapes that will need to be loaded.

In the last week, I've had to perform multiple NDMP restores of a user's home directory, due to failures along the way. The job couldn't use DAR and so I had to spend 25h each time, parsing through 20 tapes & 10TB of data looking for one user's files, only to see it die at the end. The root cause was apparently the gigantic nature of the home drive in question - 125GB, when we were expecting more like 10GB. We were flooding the destination volume without realising it. A simple feature to tot up the files selected would be a boon and you'd really expect something so simple to be there by default.

Thanks.

Agreed. Think I've seen this mentioned once or twice

before in the forums.

Almost flying blind sometimes & it can be a tad irksome.

Agree. I think the total restore size calculation feature should be available also in command line interface (bplist)
