I am attempting to implement Endpoint protection on a network that is isolated from the internet.  As of now, I can copy the virus definitions to CD and update the clients that way.  However, I cannot update the Network Threat and Proactive Threat Protection definitions as these are only available via the liveupdate server.  They are not available for download like the virus definitions.  My suggestion is to make these other two definitions downloadable for use on networks that do not have access to the liveupdate server.

Install LUA on a system that does have access to the internet and copy that over to another LUA inside the isolated network; Yes it involves using 2 LUA servers, but it will get you the definitions that you want.

On non-networked machines we can manually update the AVAS definitions by manually copying the files from "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\VirusDefs\'yyymmdd.rev" folder and place them into the target machine's 'incoming' subfolder (same folder path).
The SEP client will usually pick these up within 5 minutes.

Is there a way to do this with the PTP and NTP definitions?

Hi NyQuil64, I have the same problem.

Have you got an answer on it ?

When we use Intelligent Updater on Self-managed clients olny AV defs are updated.  What about PTP and NTP definitions?

We don't want to build more Internal LU servers, we want use Inteligent Updater and have the most current PTP & NTP definitions on self-managed boxes !

Symantec, please, make it possible !

I too would like to see manual updates for PTP and NTP.  I manage a few hundred machines with absolutely no internet connection.

I am yet another Endpoint admin with no internet connectivity. Why is this so complicated to support? I waish we had a clean, simple method to update our products.

This would definitely be helpful.

Two and a half years since this thread was created and no Intelligent Updater for PTP and NTP.  Seems to me that Symantec does not consider this request worthwhile.  I certainly don't consider my SEP product worthwhile without an Intelligent Updater that will update "ALL Services".  Many networks exclude themselves from the internet for security reasons, but still need the protection of Anti-virus, Proactive Threat Protection and Network Threat Protection services.  Symantec has really dropped the ball on this.  Perhaps it is time to spend our money elsewhere.
