While many customers install SEPM on a dedicated server, some do install it on a DC. The SMB customers normally have to install SEPM on a DC. Upon installing it, they face issues like clients not checking in, unable to login to SEPM or unable to communicate with reporting component. We know that on DCs there are additional configuration steps required, like adding Administrator account in place of IUSR account or adding Authenticated users account permissions on SEPM folder.

All these configuration steps should be part of the the preinstallation check list so that customers get a good first experience immediately after installing the product.

There is already a document that covers this

Best Practices documents for Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0 on Microsoft Small Business Server 2003
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/ent-security....

This includes specific instructions for installing on a DC, as many SBS servers are all-in-wonder boxes.

Pre purchase checklist

I hope it is not too late to comment on this.  This discussion is good but does not address all the issues.  Since many small businesses have only one server there needs to be some pre-sales documentation advising which products will co-exist on a single server.  IfI have MS Small Business Server then I already have AD and Exchange on a single server.  I want to be able to backup this server with Backup Exec, I want to protect this server with Backup Exec System Recovery, and I need to protect the domain with SEP-SBE.  Do these all work on a single server?  The only way to find out if these work on the same server is to install them and test it.  There needs to be a Matrix showing which programs co-exist.  This even goes further when you learn that SEP-SBE encounters httpd.exe errors when SEP and BESR events take place at the same time.
