Today restore jobs must go through the same media server as the one that did the backup job (without manual intervention). It will save me many calls at night, if a restore was assigned first available media server, instead of queuing up at a 100% busy one.

fixable

If you remove tape ownership this shouldn't be a problem.

Do you mean UNRESTRICTED_MEDIA_SHARING ?

I had quite an argue with support about this issue. Apparently UNRESTIRCTED_MEDIA_SHARING does not enable restore across media server, it enables  media server to share non-full tape between them.

I would be glad if you would share experiences..

odd

That's exactly what I meant. Seems like an oversight to add that option and have it work for backups but not for restores. I'll keep an eye on that the next time I kick off a restore and see where it goes.

I so agree with you. What's the idea of de-activating a media server if restores queues up. Guess the Netbackup development team cut some corners here and there.

Select media server for restores.

There is a manual process to get around this (Host Properties -> Master Server -> (Select your server) -> General Server -> Media Host Override). However, like I said, it's manual. It needs to be done before submitting the restore, and then you have to remember to set it back so you do not cause problems with future restores.

It would be nice to be able to select with media server to use from the Restore interface. The default option would be to use the same server used for the backup, the next would be "Use Any Available", then below that the list of media servers.
