Symantec has to provide a tool for removal of SEP which will not corrupt n/w card drivers. (REF: https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/h... and I am personally also faced this problem). With the present SEP remove toll (cleanwipe) many times it is corrupting the n/w card drivers. In a practical environments many time we are forcible to do remove and install SEP remotely(through VNC,RDP etc.). While doing SEP removal in remote if n/w card driver gets corrupts it will increase downtime unnecessarily and it will annoy the end user also. More problem it will create when we do a removal of SEP in production servers. So if Symantec can provide a toll which will not disturb n/w card driver it will be very helpful.

Teefer Removal tool is available

This is caused due to Teefer Driver

Use the Teefer removal first and then use Cleanwipe, you will not face any issues

Remote uninstall

One thing to note is that using RDP non Console Session (session 0) and running the Cleanwipe Utility or Uninstalling via Add/Remove are a supported way to remove the SEP.
This can cause issues like what you are experiencing.
If you have to do it over a remote sessions, just make sure you are at Console Session 0.

I will be using VNC for

I will be using VNC for accessing my workstations. I had
faced this problem up to now only with workstations. (In fact I am afraid to
use clean wipe in my production servers because of this issue. So never tried
it.)

Agreed one hundred percent. I

Agreed one hundred percent. I am always at session 0, and I run into this issue constantly. It's really a crapshoot whether I'll be able to reconnect to a machine halfway through a cleanwipe, and I would never dare trying this on a production server without someone on site. It's pretty embarassing to give the tool to local IT with the warning that, by the way, this will likely kill your NIC drivers. Please fix this.

How to receive the Teefer Removal tool

In order to receive the Teefer Removal tool you must contact Technical Support and discuss your issue with an agent.  They will determine if the specific circumstances warrant the use of the Teefer Removal tool and will make the tool available to you, along with the instructions on how to use the tool properly.

Also, as mentioned in a previous post, the RemoveTeefer tool must be run prior to running the CleanWipe Removal tool.

Need the Tool!!

I contacted support and they told me they couldn't help, that I needed a support contract.  All I am trying to do is remove the freakin' software.  Why does Symantec make it SOOOOOO hard to get rid of their stuff?

same problem

Run into the same blues. Actually the Symantec Tech support person suggested to use the CleanWipe without pointing to the issues with the Teefer2 drives. Had lots of problem to kill the corrupted symatec, and took more than three wipes to get rid of all. Naturally lost/corrupted internet drivers. ISP provider did not helped since this is not their problem. Symantec said I have to pay to fix it. Seems they enjoy making some profit on the cheap way. It is like to give a patient poison then offer the cure for extra fee. Good to be a security Dr.

Nandor

ps the uninstall trick is working. Now if I get my live update to make up for the missing definitions within a day I can call it even. By the way running Endpoint v11.

manual solution

very true, my solution is of course to :

1. remove any network card entry in your device manager

2. click "detect" new hardware button to force detection of new hardware driver (or system restart)

3. Install manually the NIC driver if needed.

that's what I've done manually so far in several 25 PC over the weekend by empolying job placement student :-| and now I wonder how to do it in the big company environment with 100+ workstations ?
