SEPM Scheduled Reports File Format

I think that this would be a good idea to have an option. 
I am a firm believer in giving many options to the Users, as long as it doesn't complicate things.

Having these reports in another format would make them accessible and readable on most mobile devices, vs the current mht format, which is not readable on mobile devices.

I'd like to take that further - do like SAV's Intel-based reporting used to do -
INCLUDE THE INFO INSIDE THE EMAIL!
Why make it an attachment at all? That just means, geesh, now I gotta click yet another link and open yet another app, such as Reader or Word which open SLOWLY in my cases.
No, make it part of the email body. SAV used to.............
I'd rather not even mess with Acrobat reader - and in fact, don't even have it installed on my personal notebook - to many security holes, it's slow, and takes a lot of memory and resources.
Word is slow - again, resource hog that doesn't free up all memory when closed.
Where-as I already have my email application open and am seeing the email message - why force me to go further, to click again and open yet another app?
What was wrong with how SAV did it in the Intel alerting?

I think it is a good idea.It will enable the administrator to create customized reports

I would think it would be nice to have an option for administrator to configure how they would want to receive the report, then most of people are happy.

We are thinking about doing a conversion to HTML rather than MHT. Does this work?

This is CRITICAL! I don't understand why this was removed in the first place - old symantec included all the info inside the e-mail. Now, when you receive an alert on your Blackberry, you can't even tell the computer name or file path. Don't bother w/ PDF or HTML, just put the info in the BODY OF THE E-MAIL!

It's very inconvinence for mobile device holder. Should have an option to select what format to use like plain text, pdf, html...etc

Is it possible or would it be possible to be able to set the action, instead of email the report that you That you can select in the notification to export the report to a location daily. This way you can check a daily report instead of getting a ton of emails with the attachments.
Maybe have an email once a day stating this is how many notifications were received for example application and device control, and the name and location of the file put in the email.

I think this might be really helpful.
I know at my company people arent really keen on the idea of having to go through these emails daily.

Just a suggestion, and hopefully one that others would find useful.

why use anything else????

can't apply simple email processing rules to emails with generically named HTML attachments.
can't read HTML attachments on many mobile devices.
can't glance at the email and see what is happening when all you see is a file attachment with a generic name.

Alerting is there to tell you what is happening!!!

The message will be sent in an HTML format. It will not be sent as an attachment.

Point taken on generic names for the HTML attachments.

I will post some samples for feedback.

Plain text or TXT/CSV with Comma. I think it's a great solution.

If it's included on the Mail text, it's a good Idea.

I can't use the MHT format on mobile Device or Linux system.

It's difficult to exploit this format for give detailled statistic feedback at the hierarchy (with excel by example).

More options to export the reports in different formats will help review the data faster.

Yes, getting an alert on my mobile phone doesn't do me much good since I can't tell who actually has the problem until I get to a computer.  Also, for Linux/Mac users out there.  Opera opens the MHT files just fine and quite easily.

An option other than MHT would be good for multiple reasons, not the least of which is that Outlook Web Access automatically blocks MHT attachments, so the reports can't be viewed when access email via OWA. 

I'd vote for PDF or HTML in the body of the email itself.  Plain text/CSV is good for some items, but there are many reports where a quick look at a chart is key.

Finally!  Anytime frame on this conversion?  Will it be in a roll up or some other means of how we can switch format?  Thanks for any updates Jim.

We are converting from SAV10 to SEP11and that is one feature I would like to see rectified.
I  have more access to my PDA durring off hours!

I've been looking for this change since rolling out SEP11.  Anything is better than the mht format. That being said, can I bump the question...how soon and how will it be deployed.

I think that options for the export format make the most sense. Limiting us to one or the other does not help.

Also it makes sense that we get the reports embedded in the email body. As others have already stated there are performance issues with making it a requirement to open an attachment and this is not the best way to deal with mobile devices.

I agree - this needs to change ASAP.

I say give us the option to at least choose from:

plain text
HTML
PDF
CSV

This one is driving me nuts, Kaspersky's daily reporting/notifications come through in the body of the email & it's so much more useful for those of us with smartphones...

Just updated to Endpoint 12.0 yesterday.  Any status on this?  

I would like to add my vote for multiple report formats that don't depend upon other proprietary software (mht - Internet Exploiter (WhoTF uses this other than M$ & Symantec?), pdf - Acrobat) how about html or plain old text, or the obvious option of IN THE BODY OF THE EMAIL!?

I've been following this for more that a year. The unsuitability of the mht format for smart phone users (that would be 100% of your userbase) has been the issue of complaints on this and other posts for well over a year and yet we still have no time line for a fix. My renewal date for our enterprise is coming up and I now have meetings with two other vendors. If this isn't fixed when we start trial deployments of those other vendors products Symantec won't even be considered.

We are a global company and our enterprise exchange team have deemed MHT files as potential risks and therefore disallow emails containing them as attachments.  As a local SEP admin, I would appreciate another option for notification reports.  I am using release 11.0.6000.550.  I have read the release notes on 11.0.6200 and I don't think it mentioned this item.

This issue seems to be something that has been talked about for years.  This post alone goes back over a year and a half.  It is obvious that SEP admins are requesting (for good reason) the ability to customize their email notifications.  It is no surprise that we now live in a world where smart-phones dominate our communication capabilities, and the lack of anticipation by Symantec has been overwhelming.  Despite the debate and suggestions seen in this post, Symantec has yet to provide even a workaround for this issue.  It is extremely disappointing that the development team would overlook something that is, no doubt, an easy fix.  I have been a customer of Symantec for years, not only of SEP but other products as well, and have seen a steady decline in their insight as to what Admins need and use and more of a focus on the average user.  I have even seen a few instances when a product that was previoulsy managed properly began to witness similar issues after being acquired by Symantec.  Perhaps there are alternatives.  Ones that may provide a better anticipated product with those willing to take the time to address the concerns posted by their customers. 

In the mean time I ask this of Symantec.  What do we, your customers, need to do in order to get a product that we can use?

Like everyone else, I believe multiple formats to choose from would be best so we can tailor the reports to our environment/preferences for in-line html emails, plain text, etc.  Judging by the number of comments/requests it would seem this needs to be a high priority issue.

This is insane. How has this issue not been resolved yet?

It is absolutely bewildering that they could even conceive of using a format for EMAIL notifications that cannot be opened under numerous common email scenarios. Not only that but that they went out of their way to change it from something that worked to begin with. 

So to get this straight- They start with a feature that works, then make a change that reduces functionality and frustrates customers. From there they get involved in a discussion about resolving the issue and even make a commitment to a resolution. Now it appears as though instead of fixing the problem as promised they’ve chosen to drop the issue completely and ignore that it ever existed in the first place. 

Jim hasn’t responded in almost a year. I’m actually surprised they haven’t deleted this entire thread like they’ve done with other threads I’ve followed in the past when they encounter an issue they choose to ignore. 

Way to go Symantec. Nice to see you do not even value your customers to provide an update.  

This is my #1 feature request for SEP(M).  An HTML based email would be wonderful, such that I can just view it in the Outlook preview pane or on my Blackberry.  Can we get an update?  It's been in development for well over a year.

 I know it has taken us a bit of time to get this feature in and I do apologize for that.  A beta will be announced shortly for the release where you can see/test the HTML notifcation.

Inline info (be it text or html) would be preferred, as I'm sure is the case with a lot of people, the recipients do not generally click on links in emails but will look at it if it is visible immediately.

Symantec. Do you guys have no idea how embarrassing this is? Or how frustrating it is for customers to not be able to get any useful information from email alerts when out of the office?

It’s complete BS, and every time I get one on my BlackBerry I’m constantly reminded how much I regret the decision to go with SEP in our enterprise over some of your competitors.

You’d be hard pressed to have picked a worse format for email notifications.

Bottom line, a Network Administrator I’m joined at the hip to work, even in my personal time, but the fact that I can’t do any risk assessment remotely without getting to a PC with VPN access takes away a lot more of my personal time than it should. Way more than it ever did before when I could view the notifications on a BlackBerry. IN THE BODY OF THE EMAIL! It’s one thing to keep me occupied at work, it’s another to unnecessarily cut into my personal time, and it’s beyond frustrating.

Fix it soon or lose a customer.

What is the status of this fix?  We just installed the latest version of the console, RU6 MP3 and I noticed this still has not been addressed.

Why does it take so long for such a simple problem to be solved?

The mht file format is completely useless. A plain text option with no attachments is a must. The fact that there are responses from 2009 and this has not been resolved by Symantec is an obvious indication that Symantec is in no rush to get this out.  SEP's ability to actually stop malware/trojan's/drive by's, etc is dubious to start with. We deal with one or more incidents a week and receiving an infection alert in an mht file on a phone then having to go to a windows machine and open it in IE juet to find out what is actually happening is ridiculous. Recently the mht file format had an exploit and MS's solution was to kill the file association.  

Symantec: Just fix the problem.  It is currently another reason not to deploy SEP in an enterprise environment.
