It would be great if we could set software delivery task to happen at logoff. I would structure it like Microsoft does for home users that have automatic update turned on.

That is a good idea!

I have actually done that very thing through some scripting and the temporary set up of a local group policy, but it wasn't pretty.  It would be nice if they would build it in as an option!

SWD indeed has plenty scope for improvement!

I thought software delivery tasks can be actioned at logoff. The big problem with it is can't tell the difference between a logoff and a shutdown ;-)

I generally agree that Software Delivery Solution is lacking a major piece of functionality in allowing software to be installed free of file locks from user activity,

  1. It cannot install software on startup before the user logs on (Microsoft SMS or group policy style)
  2. It cannot install software on logout reliably as it does not understand when a logoff is due to an OS shutdown in progress

In most of our software delivery we have have to use a slight-of-hand with scheduled tasks to get reliable rollouts, which effectively renders SWD as a file copy engine. Not great.... but we couldn't see any alternative.

Kind Regards
Ian./
