Submitting files containing a new virus,malware, etc. though the submission system

I'm constantly finding new malware on systems and locating the source of the infection. I submit files quite frequently to a few places. I rarely receive any communication back. II feel that I’m helping the community by submitting everything I find but sometimes it feels like it’s not worth it. And sometimes I don’t even know what came of the submission, I really would like to know exactly what the engineers found or the automated system found.
I think if Symantec offered rewards points, software, naming rights, or at least information on what was discovered and what the files intent was, more people would take the time out of there day to submit files or even reports on what they found in the lab.
