Quarantine redirection
We would like to offer a suggestion on the quarantine URL redirection. This would be required from an organization viewpoint from our side and presume this could be helpful to other organizations as well. The quarantine notification which is generated from SBG spam quarantine displays the complete link of the spam quarantine URL: https://xyz.company1.com:41443/brightmail. Can we customize a different link which is displayed on the notifier that gets redirected to the original link.
Say when we see the notifier, the link would be given as a simple one say: https://xyz.company1.comand while clicking on it, there will be an internal redirection
happening which will take an user through to the actual link:https://xyz.company1.com:41443/brightmail.
Not sure how we can achieve this. Can you kindly help us on the same.
Support for NTLMv2
After days of trouble shooting, we identified that if a Group Policy or Local Policy forces NTLMv2 then Symantec Endpoint cannot connect to the SQL Server with Windows Authentication. The resolution is to not require NTLMv2 in the policy. A support to this by possibly utilizing a more recent Java driver would help my clients keep a consistent security model.
Virtual labs for Partner's tech staff
It would be great to have a resource with Virtual Labs for partners like Microsoft has http://www.microsoft.com/events/vlabs/default.mspx
Partially this demand is covered by Enablement Toolkit, but there are only video demos. Never seen any interactive demos.

Hi Volo, we do offer Virtual
Hi Volo, we do offer Virtual labs which are available from a certain level within the Partner Program. Also, in response to your other question about e-Books, these are available to all Silver & above Partners (also in Ukraine), however I just tried the Russian PartnerNet site & see there's a broken link. Please send a mail with your e-mail address, Partner company name (presuming you are Silver & above) to the following e-mail address: EMEA_Partner_Enablement@symantec.com & we can set this up for you.
Best regards,
Kim

User Email Notification When Restore Job Complete
Product Version: Backup Exec 2010 R2 (64-Bit)
Platform: Windows 2008 R2 Standard Edition (64-Bit)
Task: Restoring users exchange email inbox using backup exec 2010 R2.
Issue/Idea: When a users inbox is restored using backup exec, an email is received on the users-end with the following message: "Symantec Backup Exec for Windows Servers has restored one or more items to your mailbox. After verifying that all requested items have been restored, you can delete this message. For more information, contact your system administrator and refer to the job history for job Restore xxxxx."
There should be a way an administrator can disable the system sending an automated message and/or edit the message.
I hope Symantec would incorporate this feature in the future version/hotfix.
Regards,
Omaid.
Product Installation Via MSI
I deploy NetBackup Masters to 130 sites along with NBU client system installations in those sites.
I have in the past used MSI transforms (MSTs) to supplement the standard NBU installation. Using MSTs this way is the standard method we use when deploying COTS products. It allows us better control over the degree of visibility of the installation, the management and detail level of installation logs, the application of configuration tweaks, the creation of installation tags to facilitate software inventory, etc.. all in an manner officially sanctioned by Microsoft and permitting installations to be "atomic" - either all installed or nothing installed.
NBU started using MSIs back with NBU 3.4. NBU MSIs have always been quirky (very generous understatement esp wrt NBU 6.5 which cannot un-install and re-install without massive intervention) nevertheless it was always possible to use MST's. As of NBU 7, the official method for silent installation is via setup.exe. Of course it is obvious that one can use the accompanying msi's but I am opting not to to avoid complicating support if I am deemed to have gone outside the approved approach plus I am sure the direction will be to bury the msi's within setup.exe at some point.
This appears to be coming in the form of a new official Symantec-wide direction. Bad choice for large client organisations. This propensity for Symantec to jam every product into a common mould is unfortunate in other ways - NBU's legacy logging is far easier to use and to manage than the new unified logging which everybody hates including Symantec support staff. Not everything has to be yellow.
Maintain SEP11 RU6a and RU6MP3 on Fileconnect
This important for anyone who needs to install SEP11 and cannot go directly to RU7 because they are planning to migrate to SEP12.1 before the migration from ru7 is available
sep11ru7mp1
ok.
Fix Tamper Protection Exclusions so that they work in SEPM 12.1
Symantec Protection Suite - Small Business Edition 4.0
Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1
EventID 45 errors show in Windows log as various software products clash with Symantec Tamper Protection.
Following documentated procedures to create exclusion(s) does not work.
Level 1 support reports: "it is a known issue and Symantec is working on it."
Well here's what I say: WORK HARDER!
This is supposed to be basic, built-in functionality: I know about a program because it was identified in the log, now ignore it altogether.
Shouldn't be so hard to implement!
Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager
Boa Tarde,
1. - uma melhoria muita boa para o produto é ter configuração com grade de horario para atualização da distribuição de vacina no GUP.
2. - e também que o client do GUP atualize a vacina por um GUP da rede e não pelo SEPM. ( é bug ? ).
no aguardo,
muito obrigado,
Ricardo. - 30-11-2011

User can disable SEP in 12.1
In symantec 12.1.6714971 is not having functionality to grade out "Disable Symantec Endpoint Protection".User can right click on symantec client and very well disable symantec which is a big risk. The only solution from symantec is to remove admin previlages of user to disable "Disable Symantec Endpoint Protection" In our environment we required to to give admin previleges to user in this scenario the workaround solution will not work..right?
The same functionality was possible in 11.0 verion of symantec...Same should be work in 12.1 also...
