Backup Exec 2012: Duplicate Server Entries
Backup Exec 2012 currently has an issue where if the media server has multiple entries, the duplicates cannot be removed from the server list. In Symantec's own tech article, http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH186653, they admit that this is a known issue. In the same article, they go on to state that there are no plans to address this issue. My question is "Why not?" I have opened at least two different tickets on this issue, with the most recent ticket opened because I couldn't locate some of my data that was backed up by BE2012. It turns out that even though I used the "correct" instance of the media server to backup my data, the data was located in one of the redundant entries for this server. Because of this known issue, I had to call BE2012 tech support and have my user wait anxiously for an answer on whether these business documents could be recovered. Symantec, this is a known issue. As long as we have one entry for our media server, we should be able to delete the duplicate entries for the same server. This will help reduce confusion, allow administrators to be confident with the software, and allow us to maintain a clean UI.
I look forward to hearing your response to my request. Please let me know if you require more information.
