Currently Backup Exec is still coded for the *.??? or *.* format (dot three) with Windows 7 and above some software is starting to use *.???? or dot four.

If you need to exclude four (????) Backup exec ignores your exclusion.

This is not good when working with large evidence files (can be up to 3TB each).

They need to fix the exclusion coding to except more than three characters after the last period in a file name.

Hello Carl,

I'm a member of the backup and recovery product management group with a focus on supportability.  Your feedback is important and so that I can capture the requirements.

Can you share with me which version of BE are you running (2010/2012)?  I've not had a chance to to test this but suspect this might be the behavior for both versions.

Again, I really appreciate you taking the time and sharing the information with us.

Kind Regards,

Skip St. Pierre

This issue is BOTH 2010 and 2012.

Seems like BE is still coded somewhere that max after LAST period is three locations.

I currently am running both versions, due to the way 2012 was redesigned will not work with some special backups we do (Backup job based verses new "Server-Based" backups)
