Hi,

In an effort to try and restore some faith in your product Backup Exec, can I humbly request that Symantec provides an update on the progress Windows Server 2012 R2 support, similiar to this post which was great:

https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/blogs/what-going-backup-exec-2012-windows-server-2012

I'm not asking if it is supported (I know its not yet), please dont refer me to the SCL and please dont tell me Win Server 2012 R2 isn't released yet, the preview has however been available to you for a while now. Everyone knows this.

So please provide a similiar update to the above post on when it WILL be supported according to your current development plan. Feel free to put in all kinds of disclaimers about how you cant garantee anything, I'm sure the vast majority of IT professionals can understand that deadlines and release dates cant always kept.

In fact, Symantec promised us this already:
"Our goal is for the next major release of Backup Exec to support WS12R2.  Over the next several weeks we will finalize scoping the changes required to support WS12R2.  In August , we should be able to give a 6 month window for when you can expect the next BE."
-PackMatt73, Symantec Employee at 6th of July 2013

Thank you.

This is a repost from here as I was asked to put it in the Ideas section:

Yes!!!  How about hearing some information about being able to install 2010/2010 BE on a 2012 server as a CASO or MMS as well?  Backing up 2012 servers was a very small portion of what we expect as a user community.

...I suspect this is exactly what the OP was getting at with his idea...wink

Thanks!

Yes and no. My focus with my idea was Win Server 2012 R2. I am personally less interested in when the BE media server can be installed on Win Server 2012 (non R2).

I suspect the two will correlate, Symantec will not support media servers on Win 2012 until the same release as in which they will support Win 2012 R2.

Perhaps the next release will only support Win Server R2 on the remote agent side of things? Regardless I would just like to know how things are progressing.

...which is why I gave you the thumb's up :)

Symantec don't publish roadmaps for support which does make things very difficult.

There is a New Blog answering questions about BE 2012 R2. It also addresses questions about Windows Server 2012 R2.

The registrations are open for Beta release.
