When we need to perform maintenance on Clearwell, in order to avoid a user logging into the system when we are working on it, we disable the accounts. It would be helpful to be able to select multple accounts at once and enable/disable them without changing any other settings on the account.

instead of disabling/enabling accounts, wouldn't it be better to be able to bring an appliance into maintenance mode ?

and while an appliance is in maintenance mode users that try to login should be prompted with a chosen message that the machine is in maintenance, and the time window in which the maintenance is supposed to be finished.

I second Moorrees' suggestion.  A front-end screen warning users that we're down for maintenance would be much more helpful.  The maintenance message would have to be on a different server, of course, since it might be the entire clearwell server that's down for maintenance.  That might mean playing some DNS games.
