It would be nice if the SF HA Coordination Point Server (CPS) would be available as ready-to-run VMDK for virtualized environments. This would enhance the deployment speed in new customer installation.

Hi Dagobert,

We are considering doing this but the legal requirements needed for distributing an OS costs time and a great deal of effort with our products. With CPS, it is very easy to install and configure and even if it was distributed in a virtual appliance, it would need to be configured, so the same amount of effort is needed to accomplish this. We are working towards offering CPS as a cloud service. Is this something interesting to you and your customers? If so, please send me a message to let me know.

Thanks,
Anthony

Hi Anthony,

wouldn't it be possible to use some kind of free-to-distribute Linux distribution? The basic configuration would of course be needed, but I see that as a necessity. A cloud based CPS is not useful for my customers as they all use heavily shielded environments with no internet access at all.

Best regards

Even free-to-distribute OS distributions require resources to implement, require support to be OS experts if we are distribute it.  The OS would then be locked and we would be responsible for distributing OS patches.

At the end of it, you will still have to install or configure the CP Server solution anyway.

I agree that a sample VM would be helpful but if customers have different requirements (Security, Role-based access control, etc).  If we did setup a sample, everyone would have their own requirements.  I can understand it would be helpful but in the short term, it will not be something Symantec will be able to do.

Thanks for your feedback, I really appreciate it,

Anthony
