Hi Team,

The Enterprise Vault Administration Console gives an Administrator 3 different options for shortcut behavior.

  1. Delete the shortcut only
  2. Delete both the shortcut and the archive item
  3. Give the user a choice.

This is a great idea but there is a very important aspect of this missing.  Let me give you an example from my current company:

  • We are currently using Enterprise Vault as our archiving solution.  For the last two years we have set the shortcut behavior to delete the shortcut only.  The main reason behind this is unclear to me.  Now, two years later, we are changing this to delete both the shortcut and the archived item.  We realized that there is no point in keeping the actual archived email when the user has tried to delete it once.  We are taking up space that could be otherwise allocated somewhere else.  Here is the problem.  There is currently no way to sync a users archive with what they currently have in their outlook.  In other words, delete anything in their archive that doesn't have a corresponding shortcut in outlook.  The only way to do this now is EXTREMELY time consuming and not reasonable for an environment of several thousand users.

Please look into this.  If you have any questions about this "idea" feel free to reach out to me.

Thanks for the suggestion. While Enterprise Vault does not contain this functionality natively I understand that a partner of ours (Vault Solutions) does have a product which could potentially help. Please see more here: http://www.vault-solutions.com/
