Why will 2012 Backup exec not just do a plain Diff Backup? I don't want a full

Without a full backup, how are you going to know which file to backup in your differential backup?
The archive bit... I'm with the OP on this. I just upgraded to BE 2012 from BE 2010. Now, I can't run an incremental or differential backup of my data until I run a full backup first (which takes ~60 hours to complete). This jeopardizes the recoverability of my data. I don't want to be forced to run a full backup at any time. I want the ability to run incrementals or differential backups at my discretion. I'm not happy with BE 2012, which is so constricted and overwrought, it's infuriating. I feel like it's specifically tailored to small-business solutions with its rigid backup paradigm and hand-holding. I was much happier with BE 2010...
