Enable SMS 7.2 Androids to Use More than One Mobile Security Gateway
At the present time, Symantec Mobile Security 7.2 (SMS 7.2) clients on Android devices are configured to communicate with only one Mobile Security Gateway (MSG) when conveying their inventory, events, new policies, actions, etc. I understand that this is intended to be simple and lightweight by design, as many Androids do not have the resources to spare for a more heavyweight software product.
It might be a good idea, though, to add the capability for the device to communicate through more than one MSG. This would be beneficial for fault tolerance and reliability (if one MSG was unavailable, it could try to reach the Symantec Management Platform through a second). The SEP product for Windows and Macs has a similar feature with Management Server Lists (MSL).
Ideally, this new capability may even be smart enough to detect what kinds of network connections are active and then use a prefered MSG. It wifi is active and connected, for instance, the Android would recognize that it is in the office and use the MSG on the WLAN. When it detects that it is not in that network, it will use the Internet-accessible MSG IP address and mobile internet/data for communications.
