Improve status information for ideas

Status: Reviewed

I would like to see the following improvements for the status of ideas:

  1. If you look at the last 20 ideas spanning 4 months for "Inside Symantec", only one has a status, so what does this mean - the other 19 have not been looked at - this is probably true for the more recent posts, but 4 months is a long time, so I suspect many of these have been looked at and there are no plans to implement them, bearing in mind there is a "Reviewed" status if an idea was at least been looked into.  At the moment it seems there are only positive status like "Reviewed", "Implemented", "Already Offered", "In Development", so I would like to see other status like "No plans to implement",  "Idea may be implemented at a later date", "Work-a-around given" and "Waiting to see if idea receives positive votes".  Also perhaps an idea should ALWAYS have a status, so rather than initially have no status, it should have status of something like "Pending investigation".
     
  2. I would like to see the status of the idea link to the post that contains information about the status.  So if the status is "Implemented" this should point to the post that describes how the idea was implemented and if this is an idea for a product in what version this was implemented.  Sometimes this information is in the post, but it may take a long time to find if there is a lot of comments on the idea, but sometimes it is missing, so for example https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/ideas/find-way-jump-latest-post has a post which just says "This idea is now implemented", but not how and the opening post said "If there is a query with multiple posts, and sometimes spanning more than 1 page, you're not able to jump to the latest post" and I was still not able to find a link to jump to latest post, but then I found this is only implemented for content that spans more than 1 page, so it would be useful if post said something like "Implemented by Left and Right arrows which take you to the first and last post for content that spans multiple pages" and there should also be another status of "Partially Implemented" as you can ONLY jump to last post if the content spans more than one page.  Status information for new state "No plans to implement" should give reasons why - like "Not possible", "Not enough interest", "Most customers like the way it is currently done", "Too difficult to implement" etc.
     
  3. I would like a option to be able to be notified when status of idea changes.

Thanks Mike. I understand where you're coming from here. The ideas are managed by the community manager (or in the case of product communities, sometimes the product marketing managers). So, in the case of Inside Symantec, that would be me. In general, I try to leave the ideas for a little while to see if they get any traction. But, I can certainly be better about communicating this to the community. I also try to go back and add a link to the idea when we implement a new idea-- but that doesn't always happen. I will work on doing that.

I have also added the option to be notified when status of ideas change to our considerations for the next implementation of Connect. As we work on that in the next couple of months, we will be reviewing all of the requests that have been made in the Connect Ideas area to determine the demand for those things as well as well as the feasability of implementing them.
