We are planning to have multiple instances of Symantec Scan Engine ( SSE ) to make use of the load-balancing feature of Symantec API.

Instead of hosting multiple instances of SSE in different hosts, we are trying to host multiple instances in a single host. We are facing issues while trying to do this. Understood that this feature is not supported currently. ( Referance - http://www.symantec.com/connect/forums/installing-... )

Looking forward to see support for this kind of installation in further releases of SSE !

This feature will not likely be coming in a future release. Unless you are needing to run the Scan Engine in different modes such as icap, and rpc at the same time or with different service accound credentials there is no true need to run multiple instances on a single host.

By default the scan engine is configured to can handle 128 threads available, this number can be increased or decreased.

When I have to install multiple Scan Engine or Protection Engine on the same host, I create many chroot environments and install SSE/SPE into each instances.

But beware that you cannot use the default 1344 port and have to use different port numbers for each instance.
