When using VMware Intelligent Policies (VIP), a manual backup of a single VM or a selection of VMs from the query is currently not possible.

But this could be neccessary, especially when some jobs have failed and are in "Done" status and customer wants to do a restart.

Current workaround is to create a dummy VMware policy and manually add this particular VMs to it. (problems with incrementals)

I agree that is a handy feature, but there is only one use case I can think of that is not covered today:

  • Client added to policy and you want to run a full backup right away

The use case mentioned above, restart failed backup, may be accomplished by right clicking on the failed job on the activity monitor and choosing the restart option.  This will restart just the failed backup and you are on your way.  You can also manually kick off a new backup of a previously successful job in this manner.
