Hello.
In fact VCS has such agent for Windows : lanman agent, but nothing like this for Solaris and Linux.
It will be very useful, if can change records in DNS/Active directory.
For example nowadays a lot of the customers use multipathing to protect from network errors. But it protect only from cable or port problems. And nowadays a lot of network outage are due to network equipment software bugs or any kind of attacks ( often caused by configuration mistakes, and not directly by hackers ). When such things occur not only one port couldn't work properly, but often the whole subnet.
And this agent can protect from any subnet outage.
It is also useful in situations when there is no single subnet in 2 Data centers. Nowadays it is a "stop factor" for VCS. Sometimes it isn't really trivial to create the same subnet in 2 Data centers. And such agent can help in this situation.

Just to clarify, Solaris and Linux do have a DNS agent:

Solaris (VCS 5.1 Bundled Agents Reference Guide -> Network Agents -> DNS agent):
https://sort.symantec.com/public/documents/sf/5.1/...

Linux (VCS 5.1 Bundled Agents Reference Guide -> Network Agents -> DNS agent):
https://sort.symantec.com/public/documents/sf/5.1/...

Could you be more specific about the functionality that you're looking for / feel is different/missing from these as compared to the Lanman agent on Windows?

Yes, and it work great with BIND, but not with MS DNS ( Active directory ).As I understand it use RFC 2845 and Active directory use RFC 3645 ( GSS-TSIG ) or something like this, I'm not sure.

Ability to update MS DNS (AD) from Unix/Linux servers using the DNS agent is being planned for VCS 6.0 (Expected GA in CQ4 2011).

It's great.

If you like we can test this new agent in our environment.
