Dear Symantec,

If I look at the latest copy of the Service Desk Implementation Guide, I see, on page 99, element 5, that I need to run the aspnet_regiis.exe to enable the permissions of the Service Desk Service Account for IIS:

However, when I look through the Workflow install.log, I see that this process is already run during the installation:

Register IIS account. CMD: C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727\aspnet_regiis.exe -ga "domain\ServiceDeskUser"

Can the documentation be fixed to reflect that this is not needed any more?

Kindest regards,

QuietLeni

Hi QuietLeni,

Steps 4 and 5 were removed from the topic Installing SQL Server support components on the ServiceDesk server.

The ServicDesk 7.5 Implementation Guide (http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC5722) and the KB Article http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO82186 have been updated.

To install SQL Server support components on the ServiceDesk server

  1. Log on to the ServiceDesk server with the ServiceDesk installation account.
  2. Depending on your SQL Server version, download the correct feature pack from the following locations:

SQL Server 2005 SP4

Feature pack

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=20101

SQL Server 2008 SP2

Feature pack

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=6375

SQL Server 2008 SP3

Feature pack

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=27596

SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1

Feature pack

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=26728

SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2
Feature pack

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30440

SQL Server 2012 Feature pack

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=29065

  1. Install the following components from the feature pack:
  • Microsoft SQL Server Native Client
  • Microsoft ADOMD.NET
  • Microsoft SQL Server Management Objects (SMO)
  • Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Management Objects (AMO)

Thanks for pointing this out to us.

Kindest Regards,
CNWilliams

CNWilliams,

Thanks for getting back to me so promptly. However, I just re-downloaded the document from that same URL and found that the the sections are still there?!

Kindest regards,

QuietLeni

What is the point of an Asset Management Solution that needs excessive management? Let me help you.

Hi QuietLeni,

Can you please check to see if you browser has cached a previous version of the Implementation Guide.

When I cleared the cache of my browser, I was able to get the version republished today.

Kindest Regards,

CNWilliams

CNWilliams,

I just re-downloaded the document in IE and it was still there. I cleared the cache and then tried again. It was still there. Then I tried using Chrome (which I use rarely) and it was still there.

I was using the URL:

http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC5722

and the document URL of:

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/resources/sites/BUSINESS/content/live/DOCUMENTATION/5000/DOC5722/en_US/ServiceDesk_implementation_guide.pdf

Hmmm.

Kindest regards,

QuietLeni

QuietLeni,

Funny, the KB Article Installing SQL Server support components on the ServiceDesk server

(http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO82186) was published with out any problems yesterday, and the publication date under the Implemenation Guide was Jan 14, 2013.

Just to be safe and to make sure that there wasn't some glitch in the system, I republished the Symantec ServiceDesk 7.5 Implementation Guide again this morning http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC5722 and was able to open it.

Please give it another try.

Kindest Regards,

CNWilliams
