Status: Implemented

The first time a computer initiates a Remote Control connection from the Symantec Management Console 7, the user is prompted to install an ActiveX control.

This results in the installation of pcAnywhere Solution’s remote package, which always installs pcAQuickConnect.exe.

For security reason we would like to prevent the deploy of pcAQuickConnect on end user worksation.

This means re-package the PCAnywhere Plug-In.

Thanks,

Michele Ferrari

Think i've seen this somewhere, but it surely needs to be an option under the Agent settings

I plan to put in place a daily task which will delete this item from the user's start menu, but if i didnt have to have this task, it would be one less hassle.

If a Connect post helped you out, be sure to click "Mark As Solution" or the "Thumbs Up" button to let other users know about it.

You can create a new package after downloading PCAnhere trialware.

You'll have the symantec Packager that let you create a new package.

Beware of installing the SMP pacanywhere sub-agent also, it's useful to change the authentication profils.

i have noticed that simply installing the PCA agent from NS 7.1 (which we do on every machine so we can remote into them) causes the pcanywhere quick connect to show up on the start menu.  you don't even need to open the 7.1 console at all from the endpoint and it's there.  we don't want it so that's why i'm gonna make the daily (or maybe more often) task to delete it from the start menu if it's there.

Until Symantec (finally) does something about this, I linked to manual way to uninstall if interested here

Host only install is now included as of pcAnywhere solution 12.6.7 hf1

http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC6435

What's new in this release

  • Two new policies are added that let you install pcAnywhere as Host Only without the pcAnywhere Quick Connect option:
    • pcAnywhere Plug-in for Windows - Install (Host Only)
    • pcAnywhere Plug-in for Windows - Upgrade (Host Only)
  • The "pcAnywhere Hosts by Version" report has a new field "Host Only". The "Host Only" field describes whether the managed computer has pcAnywhere Quick Connect or it is used as host only.
