This possibly isnt in the right place, but since its an idea, let me know what you think...

When we create a new forum discussion, you need to enter in the Subject and then you expand on this in the body.

One thing i find very annoying, is when you reply to the post, you allways get the 'double' subject line where it adds the first part of the sentence in your reply body, to your subject line. So its always like reading the first part twice.

Surely, when its a reply, you just need to have the 'body' (with out the subject line - even though it still says optional)

If you creating a new discussion, then fair enough, have a subject, and then continue in the body...

Thanks

I agree but I think if the subject is blank then just don't display anything.

This is my opinion because some people may want to put a subject to a reply.

so of my reply.

There are others who prefer not to use it - but, before the recent changes, it DID leave it blank if it wasn't used & people liked this also. There were a few discussions about this sometime back which was why the latter was implemented. For some reason this has stopped working, altho' I'm not sure if they're looking at correcting it or not.

I actually prefer something in there, it also allows you to distinguish your posts easier within "view" in your account ('hovering' over the entries in the Operation column shows the text you entered, so if you left it blank......)

****EDIT****

Just had a quick scout around & it was mentioned a few times when we were beta testing the new layout about the subject header not remaining blank if you didn't use it, but nothing was forthcoming. Maybe an Admin could pop in & let us know if it's in the pipeline to be resurrected?

Oh I have to laugh - this has now a Status of "Implemented" as the subject line has now been removed & so what have we got ..... missing detail!!!

Some people, like myself, actually use the Subject Line either as exactly that or as the start of their reply. Now the subject line has been totally removed (due to the change of the link location - see this blog) & we've also lost the associated detail & some of the clarity of these posts with it.

e.g. I have absolutely no idea what the opening line was that preceded "....so of my reply" in the above post from nearly 2 years ago.

Even more laughable is the fact that the OP demonstrated what was happening with regards to the repetition of the first line of a reply & that's gone too! laugh

Oh well, maybe that's just an oversight & it'll be reinstated in some form???

Hey Andy, maybe you should have cast a vote against this idea before it was implemented?

Looks like 100% of the votes on this particular idea are in favor of removing the title.

The titles or no titles question has been debated by Connect users for some time now. Here's a sample thread: http://www.symantec.com/connect/forums/why-there-title-every-post

These necroposts date from waaay before I was an active poster here. Now a lot of my CONTENT has been deleted, many of my posts have rendered meaningless, for example my last comment here:

https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/s...

Was a review of potentially deleted content not done?

Could a simple algorithm not have been written to only delete duplicate or blank titles?

I hope that was actually said tongue-in-cheek Kevin.

I actually voted for this particular idea as the OPs issue appeared to be with the fact that the subject line was duplicating what was essentially the first line of the actual post. That I had an issue with as I did not like the duplication either.

As far as I was aware I was not under any circumstances voting for the removal of the actual subject line

Just had a quick scout around & it was mentioned a few times when we were beta testing the new layout about the subject header not remaining blank if you didn't use it, but nothing was forthcoming. Maybe an Admin could pop in & let us know if it's in the pipeline to be resurrected?

***EDIT***

Even you liked them [amongst the marginal majority of those in that thread to boot!]! wink
