Previous versions of BE had the option to schedule jobs to specific days of weeks per month. For example one job the first friday of the month (for long lasting storage), a second job the second, third, fourth and last friday (for maybe some shorter storage). I havent been able to recreate such a schedule in 2012, and miss it.

Hi,

Thanks for the post. We have received feedback about absence of this feature and understand the importance of the same for our users.

This feature is under consideration.

Consider also the time window to execute the job, in recorrent jobs it's not always all the times of day or all the days of week.

Previously in BE 2010 or earlier, the time window could be configured in absolute terms i.e. start time to end time.

In BE 2012 the concept of time window manifests itself as 'relative duration from start time'. Essentially, this is the "Keep the job scheduled for nnn hours before it is rescheduled" option, where nnn is the duration in hours / minutes relative to the start time. This option is available on all the scheduling patterns i.e. hourly, daily, weekly, monthly and yearly.

Lets consider the time window of '11 pm to 6 am of the following day', the way it could be configured in BE 2010 or earlier. In BE 2012, the schedule can be configured with start time of 11pm and value of nnn for the option 'Keep the job scheduled..." set to 7, because 6 am of following day is 7 hours away from 11pm of previous day. Note that by default nnn is set to 240 hours which can be changed as per requirement.

Kindly let me know if this helps or there is different expectation from the 'time window' concept.

Mandar

Regarding the time windows i know understand the new concept. Ok i think it's a more cleaver way to define things, but not working, here's a tipe of job that i use.

SQL database log backup during the day between the 8.00 am till the 20.00, one thing my time settings are the portuguese ones i don't use those a.m and p.m.

so i configured the job to start daily at 8.00 with a recorrence of 90 minutes to keep it sheduled for 725 minutes = 12 hours * 60 minutes +- and cancel the job after 13 hours.

So my intent is to have a job between 8 and 20h and it works every 90 minutes.

Have a look at my shedule calendar about this job and logs.. and see it work all day.

Best regards.

Thanks for the images.

The hourly schedule in BE 2012 is a straightforward recurrence pattern in which once the schedule comes in effect on the start date+time, next recurrences are generated every nnnn hours / minutes as configured in the schedule.

What we are discussing in this post is the time window as restriction for the hourly pattern, which is missing in BE 2012. Essentially, the requirement is to be able to configure start and end times between which the hourly recurrences are generated. We have received feedback on the same, do understand the value of this feature for our users and are actively considering the same.

I would request you to refer to Elizabeth's post titled "Schedule Challenges" on the following post for more insight.
