Me Too!I have the same issue
Product(s): Backup Exec, Backup Exec - 2010
Severity: Non-data threatening / major functionality
Status: Public fix available
Tech Note: More Information

Problem

When backing up VMware Virtual Machines the job may fail with 0xe000fe34 - A checksum of the data has failed.  This error may occur if the Backup is configured to use Software Encryption, the backup is targeted to a tape device, and the size of the backup forces the job to span across multiple tapes.  If you run a manual verify of this data, it will also receive the same error message.

Solution

Workaround:
Disable Software Encryption for this backup or split the backup into multiple jobs that will fit onto one tape.

I downloaded and installed Backup Exec 2010 R3 about a week ago, am now getting the error "0xe000fe34 -  A checksum of the data has failed during the verify portion of the job."

Our media server is a 64-bit Windows 2008 R2 server and I'm backing up 2 virtualized 64-bit Windows 2008 R2 servers.  We use VMWare ESXi v5.0.  We backup nightly to a removable USB disc drive rotating 5 drives, one for each night M-F.

I've reviewed TECH164566 article in the KB and have already downloaded and installed Service Pack 2 for Backup Exec 2010 R3, but we continue to get this error each time we backup.  The files that fail to verify randomly varies with each backup.

I have turned off compression and we do not use encryption.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
