Problem

The restore of a granular item from a successful Sharepoint Agent backup of a Sharepoint 2010 content database may fail with this error:

Error

WARNING: The file DocumentName.Doc was restored from a file that was corrupt when it was backed up, or the backup file is now missing or corrupt.  Try restoring the file from another backup, or try repairing the file.

Completed status: Failed
Final error: 0xe0001602 - Access is denied (SharePoint backup).
Final error category: Security Errors

Solution

Workaround: a full database restore is necessary in order to recover granular items.  This can be accomplished in one 3 ways:

1) Restore the full database to original location.  This will overwrite the existing DB and will replace all contents present in that Web Application/Site Collection.

2) Redirect the Sharepoint Content DB to another Sharepoint environment.  The granular items can then be accessed individually through normal access or can be expored using Sharepoint tools.

3) Redirect the Sharepoint Content DB to an alternate SQL Server.  The database can then be attached to Sharepoint or the Sharepoint backup/restore utility can be used to extract granular items.
