Me Too!I have the same issue
Product(s): Symantec System Recovery (formerly Backup Exec System Recovery) - SSR 2011, Symantec System Recovery (formerly Backup Exec System Recovery)
Severity: Minor functionality
Status: Public fix available
Tech Note: More Information

After adding the 'SMTP Email' settings in the Symantec System Recovery (SSR) graphical user interface (GUI), those settings are lost if the machine is restarted rather than being shutdown.

At the time of writing, the only available workaround is to ensure that the machine is shutdown, instead of being restarted, after adding the SMTP Email settings.

An update for everyone...

Our engineering team have released an 'orphan' (pre-release fix) that should address this issue. Please open a case with support if you want to test this orphan.

Please set to HIGH.  It is a major issue that you do not receive an email and a big risk if the backup does not succeed.

This is currently being worked on by our engineering team. My understanding is that we are close to a fix.

This is crazy, how can anyone rely on a backup system when you can't rely on the alerts!

It's been months now, come on Symantec!

So if I shutdown server, restart it and then log in settings are there?

But then if server is restarted will it again loose the settings?

In any case shutting down a server is a problem - considering that it is a remote webserver.

Is there some other workaround like forcing the software to beleive the server shutdown?

We support around 30 servers running system recovery and have experienced this issue on the newer Small Business 2011 servers running System recovery 2011.

As we are responsible for ensuring our customers backups complete successfully we really rely on the SMTP alerts.  Until this problem is resolved we wont be installing any more SR2011's.
