Unable to create a Deduplication Storage Folder. "Gathering Information" is displayed in the Backup Exec User Interface (BE UI) for 1 hour.

Creating a new dedupe folder on a server may hang at Gathering Information.

Example errors from the pdde-config.log: (after 1 hour)

Executing spoold.exe --start...
Starting service spoold: ......failed
Error: 1: The spoold service could not start in a timely fashion. The service is currently in a starting state and returned an exit status of 0 to the Service Control Manager.
ERR: "C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec"\spoold.exe --start failed: 1

A supported hotfix has been made available for this issue. Please contact Symantec Technical Support to obtain this fix. This hotfix has not yet gone through any extensive Q&A testing. Consequently, if you are not adversely affected by this problem and have a satisfactory temporary workaround in place, we recommend that you wait for the public release of this hotfix
