Support has told me that the VMware agent does not backup the snapshots of a machine and only backs up the main vmdk. This should be standard practice to backup all the data before the snapshot it performs, VMDK and Deltas vmdk files.

Retention period incorrectly displayed in schedule when backing up to SLP

While the retention attribute in a schedule is ignored when backing up to a SLP, the "Schedules" section in the "Policies" tab still displays a retention value.

In the schedule settings the retention section is grayed out as expected. Having the retention period display a value is misleading and can lead to issues when changing the policies STU without adjusting the retention level appropriately.

Symantec Support explained this is designed behavior, "this behavior doesn't indicate a problem with NBU or the GUI
but they agreed this may be confusing.

Would love to see this voted on so it can be fixed in a later version.

OCA does not recognise no FT configuration - Reports Partially Connected

Master has No FT clients or is not configured to be an FT server yet FT data Collection Status reports as 'Not Reported' and 'Not Started', causing master server to report it's state as 'Partially Connected'
All other data collectors have reported successfully and is collection data.

Add a field/check box to either include/exclude FT data collection, whereby not falsely reporting the state of OCA for the master server.

On Netbackup 7.1.0.2, GRT Exchange backups cannot be expanded if they were migrated from Exchange 2003 or 2007. However, jobs finish successfully with status 0.

Please throw a GRT failure flag for 7.1.0.2 users, there is NO other way for us to find out there's a problem until we attempt a restore.

Hi NBU Team

I've been using this OPs Center reporting tool since 7.0 release.

it's good to have centralize reporting server which serves BE, EV, PD and NBU ofcourse.

But i disliked the way analytics is playing role on ONLY CUSTOMIZING reporting (with additional features chargeback.traditional license deployment utility (though never worked for me)....etc..

Even though basic report are not what ACTUALLY pre defined templates are serving now... I mean this should not lead to a cause BU to purchase analytics.

More over to it's complexity of fetching data from various fields are bit tricky and time consuming too :-(

Basic report should atleast include following with ammending to existing fields

Media ID

Deduplication ratio etc.

OPs Center also restricts us from viewing reports older than 2 months (buy analytics to override this restriction). What about my yearly , quaterly and half yearly backups :-0.. Just to see those reports also Analytics has to be purchased... Doesn't justify a firm reason to go for it.

significant improvement has been seen in 7.5 beta phases. with Search and restore functionality it's amazing.. but as for every coin has two sides.. this also falls in few cons which need to be addressed.

Symantec had two backup families serving best in industries to Enterprise (NBU) and for SMB (Backup Exec)... but Ops center can be centralized with reporting. there have been huge diffrence when i compare reports from this both product under 1 brand. As number speaks this becomes diffcult to analyse this numbers if they can't provide accurate or near to accurate information...

I agree OPs center saves alot money by reducing administrators MIS report preparation time... but still there are manual report required them to be prepared... Customer intends to rely on automation of this technologies....

Symantec Developer team is very much keen on improvising their products continuously.. Would love to see such improvements in those reports too....alas it would impress our seniors too ;-)

IE 9 Compatibility for System Recovery Management Console

Hello,

IE9 has been released for almost a year now. It is the most secure IE browser and System Recovery Management Console should support it. I need to install the console on a Win 2008 server that has IE9 already installed and the prerequisite fails because I don't have IE7 or IE8 installed. Windows server 8 will surely come preinstalled with IE9. Please release a hot fix or patch for IE9 compatibility.

Color coded preview media

I'd like to suggest a color code scheme for the "Preview Media" button. When I set up a restore, it's great that I can preview the tape I'm going to need to perform the restore, but the preview media function doesn't tell me if the tape is actually in a library. I'd like the preview media button to still give me the tape number, but if the tape is in the library, the tape number shows up in green. This tell me immediately that the tape is in the library and this restore is ready to rock.

If the tape is not in the library, I'd like the tape number to show up in red, indicating that I need to figure out where the tape is, load it, reinventory the library and then try the restore again.

2010 R3 - Report on files backed up from catalog database

Would like the ability to report or list files backed up at job level by querying the catalog database. This would be useful in a differential or incremental job to see which files were backed up.

From tech support the workaround is to go to Tools, Options, Job Logs and set it to report on files instead of just Summary information only. This would be nice if could be set at job level as on a typical full backup I will have millions of files and would not need turned on.

EV Archive Deletion

Is there any way that EV archive deletion can be improved?

currently in EV 8 SP5 you have to do one archive at a time in the GUI or get messy with SQL code. Is there any improvement in EV 9 or 10 for this?

I am currently in the process of deleting several thousand archives (to reclaim almost a TB of disk space) and due to the limitations in the VAC and limited SQL knowledge it is proving awkward to achieve.

I was thinking that an archive deletion module could be built into the VAC, you just drag and drop the archives into that location and EV does the rest, this would make life much easier.

also the reporting for archive deletion is poor. Apart from trawling through the logs there is no way to confirm archive deletion
