Catalog Errors - ODBC Access Error.

作成: 06 Jan 2014 | コメント数: 5

Hi Everyone,

Im new to raising tickets on here so if i have forgotten anything let me know :)

I have been using BE2012 for a while now without any real hiccups. I went on leave and have come back and found ive got catalog error's occuring every couple of mins when backing up or trying to restore.

we run a single backupexec server for this domain which is HP DL360 g6 / twin quad core xeons / 32gb ram / 2 x raid 1 500GB (c) / 2 x raid 1 1TB (D) / P230 sas pci-e card, OS windows 2008 R2.

Backupexec 2012 v14 rev 1798 64bit

we have a G2 1/8 HP storageworks autoloader with 8 slots & the tape drive which is LTO 4.

we have about 60TB of physical storage across several servers of which we back up to 6TB on a weekly basis (which is another problem for another day)

I attempted to do a restore and even that is failing? Our weekly backups are also failing as they are taking an age to backup but i think that maybe just the ammount of data we are  trying to backup over the weekend window. backups kick off at 11pm and run through to monday evening.

Does anyone have any ideas on what maybe causing it?! what i can do to try and fix it?

Check that you have sufficient space on your C: drive. If there is then your catalog is probably corrupted. Do the following and see whether it solves the problem.

1. Stop all the BE services

2. Rename the Catalog directory u under the BE installation directory to Catalog.old

3. Create a new Catalog directory

4. Try running your backup and do a catalog of one of your existing media.

Hi Pkh,

By renaming the catalog will I loose any of the configuraion\jobs\data?

Thanks for the reply :)

You would not lose your job definitions or other configurations.  With the new catalog directory, you would not be able to access your backups until you catalog them again.

You do not want to rename catalog folder in Backup Exec 2012.

This will cause issues with DLM resulting in media protection and overwrite issues.

Can you post the Application Event Log Entry that shows up right after the Message: ODBC access error. Possible lost connection to database

The next event in application log provides more detail.

try to power cycle the tape drive

1. Power Off the Server
2. Power off the Tape Drive
3. Power on the Tape Drive to a 'Ready' State
4. Power on the Server

also,
is running a job to disk successful?
