Is there a way to add in a Master Exclusion List to the SVS Admin sort of like the way Wise Pacakage Studio has a master exclusion list?
We are finding that we need exceptions in products that have nothing to do with the particular product in question.
For example, we use Lotus Notes and find that we need to include the exceptions for the Office Products in this example in case the user gets an attachment in Notes.
Another one that requires a bunch of exceptions in our environment is the Java Runtime client. It seems to have hooks into everything.
I think a Master Exclusion list that is only implemented in the rare cases when it is needed is the way to go.
What does everyone think?

It's a great idea
I would like to see such a master list too.
It would save me from editing each layer that I import, just to make sure that the files I save go to the base (I do not use data layers).
First I thought it might be possible with an empty layer with a high priority. Where that layer has the excludes. But then it will capture all data other layers produce, I guess. I haven't tested it.

Unfortunately there isn't but we do have tools for making excludes as quick and painless as possible. We have both excludecopy and excludegen and an article on how to set up everything.

Global Excludes Added to SVS 2.1
Ok. No problem. In about 1 hr., Randy coded the filter driver changes for Global Excludes on a cross-country flight, later in the day after your post. We're adding this to SVS 2.1.
We're still trying to hash out how exposed the feature will be without impacting schedule. Worst case, it will require a manual reg hack. But if we can get it in the API, CLI and SVS Admin without affecting the release date, we'll take it as far as we can.

I guess even if you just make it via a reg hack, tools will quickly get posted with a graphical user interface that allow easy modifications to the reg value. :)

Just how global would you like your excludes?
Global excludes make the life of an administrator easier, especially if they are REALLY global.
I mean global excludes for the enterprise.
Centrally define and manage your global excludes which are automatically replicated to all your virtual layers for all users, without the need for re-importing applications.
This is already standard functionality of the Altiris SVS integration within Scense 4.0.

Global excludes
As Richard already stated, in Scense 4.0 there is a global exclude entry. Only thing to find out is what registry it needs to hack to do it.
The best thing for SVS is to work the other way around. Don't work with exclusion lists, but work with inclusion lists. You then only have to include what you wish to.

I agree, I think an include list would be much better and then maybe have like a checkbox/option to just include everything (good for some data layer setups) because frankly I don't want to worry about where my articles are going, and I sure as heck don't want them by default going into a layer that could get reset and lose everything. Excludes are something that never made sense to me from a usability point of view.
