Categorize SVS Admin / Trinket

maslik's picture

I have about 25 virtualized applications in my SVS admin and I'm getting a little irritated that I have to search for an application each time I choose to activate or deactivate it.

I would like the option in SVS admin / Trinket to categorize my applications. It would be nice to be able to create a container, like Internet, and another, like Games, and all the related SVS apps could be put in these containers. Now I would only have to open the appropriate container (like you would in a OU in Active Directory) and select the correct application quick and easy.

Greetings,

Great Idea

A very good idea and I'd like to add a little wish for that kind of organization as well:

SVS Admin should be able to (internally) save the current structure of how the user organized his containers and rebuild this structure after a reboot.

For example:

I have 3 folders in the root.

Internet
Games
Tools

Internet has 3 entries for programs, Games 2 and Tools 10.

If I use mainly the application from the tools dir I'd like to have this structure displayed every time I open SVS Admin:

+Internet
+Games
-Tools
... Tool01
... Tool02
... Tool0x
... Tool10

+ and - icon indicates if a folder is collapsed or fully visible.

Just like normal organization within applications like windows explorer or other directory tools.

The thing that would make it even more perfect is that when you are able to sort the folders just how you like it. Sort them alphabetically (standard setting) and additionally (through up and down arrows) let the users build their own order.

Highend

That's a really good idea.

That's a really good idea. I know this type of request has been made in the past (because I was one of those who asked for it) and we're looking at something like this in a future version for the Admin console. There may be a chance it will get placed into Trinket as well.

FYI I label my layers with something in the beginning so they "group" correctly. Something like Game layers start with a capital "G-" before them, applications start with "A-"... you get the picture.

Until the admin console and trinket get this structural enhancement that's the best way I can think of to organize my layers.

Anyone else out there have an idea on how to organize them with the UI as is?

How about using the OS and avoiding the admin/trinket tool?

I'm new to all of this and not a programmer but it would seem to me that you could accomplish this via a batch/VBS file and the OS.

Create the folder structure you want want put the SVS files into the folders.
Create a batch/VBS file that will call the command line prompts to open all of the files in the folder. If you want each "group" to be exclusive the command line could be invoked to deactivate all active SVS files and then activate all that were in that folder.

Note: It may require the addition of something like the "SVS Drag and Drop Importer Tool" but I'm not sure.

Again, this is only a theory from a non-programmer.
