Enhancement request for WPS 7.0: Textdocuments editing
1 Agree, 0 Disagree
In wise 7.0 you can edit ini-files.
At customer sites I sometimes get setups who edit other text-based files. For example: the services and host-file in the system32/drivers/etc. directory.
At this moment Wise captures the total of the file, which you do not want. If other programs already have made changes to them, those changes would be overwritten.
I now use some scripts to edit/delete/write such textfiles, but it should be pretty nice when it would be handled automatically.
I would like to get a feature to edit text-files in the MSI just like INI-files. Only an 'add line to textfile' option would already be a great improvement.
Same situation here
I got the same situation here, so yes that's a good idea. We'll see in the future versions.
Yes, to remove hardcoding
Yes, to remove hardcoding and to avoid user defined custom actions, this will be definatly a excellant idea.
Custom Actions
Editing files isn't part of any existing standard actions. So the ability to modify a file should lie in a custom action and there you could for example use a wise script custom action to perform whatever modification to the file you want. It is not Wise/Altiris/Symantec task to change the functionality of windows installer, that would be Microsoft task to do.
Yes, I agree
Yes, I agree. currently I use some wise scripts, but that's not ideal.
