How to Get SVS or SWV ? Where to Download SVS 2.1, and SWV 6.1 !

I think a lot of people, like me, spend a lot of time try finding how to get those download:

• Latest SVS 2.1 version (integrated inside the CMS 7).
• New SWV 6.1 that is advanced SVS version, is an addon of the Altiris CMS 7.

SVS 2.1 (Software Virtualization Solution) will be integrated into the "Client Management Suite 7", not SWV 6.1 (Symantec Workspace Virtualization) must be paid in addition (was 45€ by PC in EMEA). Both SVS 2.1 "light" version & SWV 6.1 version will still free personal use. So I suggest you for personal use to take directly the 6.1 if you are IT maniak. 2.1 is OK if you just want to capture a game installation or something like that, without touching your OS installation (so hard to keep it stable :)

So we will still need to download & update for SVS 2.1. If you are using CMS7: The "integrated NS update" should provide simple way to download, but it is not necessary including the latest hotfix. Moreover: If you wan to evaluate or personal use SVS, you should be able to, without needing to install a full CMS server( 1+GB download ;-)

Obsolete or Broken:

• Personally I was using svsdownload.com. This place was & is still redirect an obsolete location: http://juice.altiris.com/aff/3239/7
• I also receive from a Symantec employee the link www.getsvs.com, redirecting to:
• www-secure.symantec.com/connect/pages/get-svs-now now "Access Denied" error. (so fun ;)
• Do not use some external download area like: download.cnet.com/Software-Virtualization-Solution-SVS/3000-2651_4-10516806.html (current obsolete 2084 build only)

SWV 6.1 Officials:

• SWV 6.1 (current revision SP1 is 6.1.5104 at Nov.11, 2009) is a public FINAL - http://go.symantec.com/sevdownloads/
• For your personal license, I guess you should use the SVS 2.1 serial, you can ask using the SVS link next §.

(I do upgrade my own SVS 2.1 with this SWV 6.1 and all my applications are OK, but do a system backup before, with BESR ;)

SVS 2.1 Officials:

Here the result of my latest (but probably not last) investigation for getting latest: That is:  [last checked 2009-11-11]

• SVS 2.1 SP2 MP2 HF46118 (build 3071) using KB Altiris #46118 kb.altiris.com/article.asp [please vote my post if you use it ;-]
• OVER: Official download was from: http://www.symantec.com/business/products/trialware.jsp?pcid=pcat_infrastruct_op&pvid=sv_sol_pro_1# 
  but you will never find any more the build 3066 (SP2 MP2) because this link is giving now the SWV download only, so you must download all CMS7 (1GB), to get this one version (10MB)... :-(
  That's why I suggest you download the 3071 above, also to update your CMS7 SP1 that is still the "old" 3066 revision ;-)

• But the latest version should "appears" in there kb.altiris.com/article.asp KB#29519 
• For getting personal user license: it seems to still be www.altiris.com/Download/svsPersonal.aspx

(But not sure this last it is not obsolete page, notice giving your email is just optional, that is providing currently a fixed serial for all b6c5a-wiy8u-e89de-c3cv4  ;-)

I suppose those links will be oboslete in the future, because "altiris.com" instead of "symantec.com". So please, I suggest you subscribe this post & as soon as you find a "new" good download area, just add in there or message me! (So I can correct this post ;-)

PS. For integrating install with an existing NS Altiris agent, just add "ALTIRIS_NS=1" property parameter: eg.

msiexec /qb /i svsagent.msi PRODUCT_KEY=b6c5a-wiy8u-e89de-c3cv4 ALTIRIS_NS=1

Hey, before clicking a link & download, just verify the source of your download, it is always a risk to install an application you don't verify the source.
I hear you: "Hey Pascal, stop bearing us with your recommendations, of course we know that, we are PRO IT!" 
OK, I know you are, and most of you are absolutly not currently using a web navigator with local admin right from XP client,
giving any corrupted web page the right to trojen your own PC, (Only if not correctly protected latest Norton or SEP, of course ;-),
