I highly sugest Altiris integrate in the inventory the following information, seems not currently collected by default from Altiris CMS 6 or CMS 7 (and that is a shame)
- Device enumeration string (PCI/VEN_8086&DEV_1234)
- Device driver file, Version + name + editor name...
I was so despite to see not included in standard Altiris inventory 7 !
A good idea.
The DS Console provides basic hardware inventory, but lacks any real information. To maintain my systems and boot discs, I currently have a large excel spreadsheet of all the main hardware device and vendor IDs (and ACPI and VID IDs where required). It would be much easier if I could drill into a device in DS to get this information.
EDIT: My apologies, this suggestion was included in the "Altiris Deployment Solution" group as well... I completely missed the fact that the original request was for the Inventory solutions. My addition would be to incldue this information within the "Get Inventory" task of "Deployment Solution" so that it apepars under a computer's properties.
P&P ID for both DS & CMS
I agree we should be able to complete EXPRESS base also with the enumeration string of each device. But I guess Symantec will more invest in DS7 than DS 6.9, all the same a large number of customers does not want to see any SMP/NS web console.

Custom Inventory
All this data on device enumeration is captured by WMI. Altriis Inventory solution can be extended through a custom inventory that gathers the additional WMI information you require for device enumeration.
