You will need to contact support to get the fix and also need to upgrade to VCS 4.1 MP4 RP2. Because most fixes are available on RP2.

What I can find only is SF 5.1 supports SQL 2008, no where for VMWARE it is mentioned... so I don't think guest os will support SQL2008 for now.. Regarding 2nd part.... again nothing mentioned on portals... not sure on Symantec ...
