I have 3 domain controllers in 3 different offices, connected via WAN links.  The users share in the other 2 office replilcates to a share on my local server using dfs for backup purposes.  I have selected the local share (not the DFS Root directory) but none of the user folders or files are backed up to tape.  Any suggestions would be helpful.

I am running the BackupExec 11D, 7170. I had the Patch 3 with some hotfixes loaded on it.  When I ran the Remote agent install from the media server, (default options were set to install the Remote server, Open files by default) and  once the setup was complete it would prompt me in the install proceedure to either reboot now or wait. Since then I have updated to Patch 4 and hotfix 69. I have installed/updated some of the clients, but when I go though the Remote agent install.  I have to select what options I want to install (notning is selected by default).  Also when the system finishs the install, it automatically sends the Reboot command to the server.  I have been lucky enought that I had only pushed this update to systems that were non-critical, as that would have been nasty. So is there some options that I have missed configuring when setting up the remote agent installs? Is there much difference for the agents between the patch 3 and patch 4 that would...

Hello, We are having an issue with backing up our VMWare ESX box. As of a week ago, without having changed anything on the backup server (Windows 2003 32bit) or the machine being backed up (VMWare ESX): Backup- \\Server.domain.local] Failed to read extended attributes and ACLs for /. Please review file system mount options to enable support for extended attributes and ACLs. Now - I'll be honest with ya - I am no VMWare ESX guru and we got this box set up by a contractor, so I honestly dont have the slightests clue on what this means. AFAIK the machine does not download/install updates automatically, and nothing has changed about the Backup Exec setup, aside of the fact the machine it is on was recently demoted from Domain Controller to just a server. But this was about 2 weeks ago, the issue started to happen since about a week. I am guessing I will need to change something on the ESX machine, but not sure what. We can of course always call our contractor but...

BackupExec 11d. Exchange 2007 SP1. Some times ago, I tried to follow the article: https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/h... to restore a mailbox using RSG and it worked fine. Today I am trying to redo the test, you never know, and in fact ... it does not work anymore. Initially, doing the same steps, I encountered the infamous error "0xe000848c - Unable to attach to a resource. Make sure that all selected resources exist and are online, and then try again. " and googled to find no answer. So I decided to try mine solution: remove RSG in Exchange and recreate one. After this step, the job (correctly set up with Redirect Exchange Set --> Redirect using VSS --> Redirect to RSG) runs and ends without errors. However, there is NO file under the RSG location (X:\Microsoft\Exchange Server\Mailbox\First Storage Group\RSG20091116130840.) so when I tried to mount the RSG, no mailboxes are located into. Do you have some suggestions ? I can't think...

Hello, since two weeks we encounter big problems with our B2D-Backup: We use a NAS from LACIE as B2D-System with several directories where each job stores its information in a directory. Everything worked fine before. Now it happens that the media server is loading a bkf-file from the NAS or tries to determine the bkf-file for the NAS. Sometimes, independent from the backup job, this action fails with the error message that there are not enough ressources available. After all several services begin to crash on the media server which is running on a SBS 2003: First the error message with eventid 2020 is reported: The server was unable to allocate from the system paged pool because the pool was empty Next the DNS is announcing that it has detected an error in Active Directory, after all the running Exchange also crashes. This all happens only if Backup Exec 11 is running a B2D-job. Once in a month we backup to a LTO media, this jobs runs great without problems. The system is...

For some reason I'm not getting brick backups, but thats another issue. I'm trying to restore a exchange store (full not snapshot) to the Exchange 2003 Recovery storage folder. I pick my store, then click on exchange redirection. I indicate to restore to the same server (E2K3), then click on Exchange Re-direction and pick the approriate server drive/folder combo I then get a message that says If you redirect the restore of a Microsoft Exchanger server 2000 and  later storage group or database,  and you also select the "no loss restore"option you might not be able to mount after the restore, to prevent this clear the  "no loss option". Here is the problem, I can't clear it, it's under the 5.5 settings? ? and it's greyed out. Backpexec 11D Sp4 Build 7170 Hotfixes 37,62,64

I am running BackupExec 11D. I have the software installed on Windows 2003 SBS and I have software on one Windows XP Professional. That one machine has access to login and cancel jobs, etc. On Sunday our network tech came in and fixed some DNS issues on the server and swapped out a firewall for something else. He says nothing he did should affect my access to the backup software, but now I cannot login. It says: "A security package specific error occurred." Any ideas what could be the problem?

Hello, I have a Windows 2003 Server with Backup Exec 11d running on it and doing the job just fine as it's backing up local drives on my server.   Today we just setup a NAS Applicance to move some of our data off of the server to and we have mapped the NAS drive letters to our server in hopes to backup the data.   I attempted to create a new backup policy today to target the newly presented network drives that are visible and the selection of the mapped drive is greyed out.   I'm getting the following messages: "Selection of this item is dsiabled.   Possible Reasons are: -   The Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows Systems on the Remote Computer is a previous or imcompatible version. -   A license for the Remote Agent is not installed on the media server. -   You are not authorized to access this item Possible Solutions are: -  Reinstall the Remote Agent on the Remote Computer. -  Enter a...

I am using BE 11d Rev. 7170 on a Windows 2003 server. I am attempting to backup a remote Win 2k3 with the remote agent installed. My daily backup will constantly fail with the error "0xe00084af - The directory or file was not found, or could not be accessed" for all of the remote server shares unless I reboot the remote server. After a reboot of the remote server I will get a successful backup. I have restarted the service and reinstalled the remote agent. I never lose access to the shares across the network from this server and I have run a continuous ping test for several days with no failure to communicate. There aren't any errors in the event log on either server. I'm stumped at this point! Any thoughts?

I am experiencing a "possible deadlock condition" error when running a full system backup. This only happens when writing the backup to an external USB hard drive, it never occurs when backing up to tape. The run times for both disk and tape are nearly the same. The job runs fine for several hours before the error occurs, then it locks. I need to stop the BE services to get the job to end.   I am using AOFO and a Removable Backup-to-Disk Folder. BE 11d. Windows 2003 Server Std. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Hi Everyone, Exchange 2007 SP2 is released a while now, but as far as I understand from the Software Compatibility Lists of 11d and 12.5, Exchange SP2 is not supported yet.  Does anyone have real-life experiences backing-up and restoring Exchange 2007 SP2 with BE 11d (our current version) or 12.5 ?   If I need to upgrade to 12.5, when will it be supported? Thanks, Best Regards Wim

Hi i'm running BUE11d (7170) and have a tandberg ts400 LTO drive. I've just spotted that the weekends backup jobs did not run. The Tape drive is showing as being in use, even though nothing is actually running. The BUE services have been stopped and restarted, and i'm on the verge of rebooting the server to try and cure this. Is there anything else that can be done to resolve this? Cheers
