Dear Sir/Madam,
We bought 15 HP T5540 Terminals last month. These terminals all run Windows CE 6.0.
The problem is that when we put the terminal on, it register’s itself on the Altiris Deployment Server, (which we reinstalled with DP6.9 SP3). The Deployment server then upgrades the Altiris Agent to version 6.9.430, and after that I cannot manage it anymore.
The strange thing is that when I remove the Agent installer from the Deployment server and reimage the Thin Client so it gets it’s default CE installation (Latest image from HP.com website) and default agent (6.9.274 I believe) it runs fine and I’m able to send it reboot requests etc.
(the Deployment server however keeps creating an Agent update task which cannot run because I moved the source files).
After I move back the source files the Agent get’s updated and I cannot manage it anymore.
Then I tried a terminal with CE 5.0, this is a T5530 because the T5540 doesn’t...

I captured a Windows XP image from a computer with an Intel Processor, and I can restore to all machines that I have that have Intel, and it completes just fine, even after win xp setup. However, if I restore to a computer that has AMD, it will complete the restore, but when I reboot to start windows on the fresh machine, it brings up a blue screen and then reboots, and continues this cycle, but the blue screen is not displayed but maybe a millisecond to where I cannot read anything. Can you please help with this?
Thanks,
Shawn.

DS 6.9 SP2 (slowly moving to NS 7)
(One server running the DS software + PXE, as well as PXE running on the DHCP server as I wasn't able to get it to successfully run without the PXE services on the MS DHCP box.
Sometimes, I have noticed that when I schedule a job to a PC, and it reboots, the PC will fail to even see the PXE server.
I believe it gives the error PXE-E55: media test failure. It's weird because the PC is connected, and if I simply CTRL-ALT-DEL the PC when i see this, it will come up fine the next time around 100% of the time.
Could this be an issue with the PC? the Network? Switch?
Any ideas / suggestions about this?
Thanks!

Hello all,
I would like to bring some customizations to linux preboot but i don't know how to make it. Do you know any kind of documentation to do that ?
Moreover, i can't be able to find the right source for the new Linux Preboot. Symantec do have a page (called Linux support or something of that kind) but the linux preboot 6.9 SP3 source link points in fact to 6.9 SP1 sources instead... (Fedora 2.6.18-8 based kernel instead of OpenSuse 2.6.27-7 based kernel).
I would like to add dmraid to that preboot.
Any help appreciated ^^.

Hello,
I need to find the pre-boot automation x64 Linux OS that was once available from Altiris at the following URL.
http://www.altiris.com/Download.aspx
The URL is obviously no longer valid, and I did go to the Symantec FTP site, but could not find any pre-boot OS files.
Anyone know where this can be found?
Thanks

Hi there,
I am having this issue now since a few days. When I try to update some collections (in Altiris Deployment console 6.5), I get the following error message:
"Changes to the collection could not be saved because an unexpected error occurred"
It happens on some collections, not on all of them.
I now noticed that even the "auto-update" of the membership (via filters) doesn't work, which means I cannot install machines correctly anymore.
I really need some help urgently on this. Has anyone seen this or have an idea where to look / what to change, to solve it?
Thank you for your help,
Luke

Is there a way to change the settings of the Altiris Client Service when I'm logged on to a server via RDP but without the console switch. The problem is that on domain controllers only domain admins are allowed to log on using the console switch, but our altiris guys are only server operators. The Altiris version is 6.9.164 (x64).
Thanks

If the title made no sense I apologize :) I'll explain what my current situation is like, and hopefully I'm just completely missing something and there will be an easier way to handle this.
I have a long list of all of the install jobs. I then I have folders categorized for a certain group of computers. For example, a folder with software jobs for Group A, and another folder with software jobs for Group B, and another for Group C and so on. All of those jobs are already in the long list, as well as being in these folders, as well as being duplicated in each folder. Like, Group A will need Office, Adobe, and Firefox, while Group B will only need Firefox and Adobe, and Group C will need just Office.
So with just 3 groups, I have the same job duplicated 3 times, and if I need to make a change to that job, I have to go into every folder to find that same job to make that same change. IS there a way I can have one job, and have other jobs that...

Hello there!
I have a question about sysprep-ing windows 7 enterprise.
I have created a test answer file that it is supposed to customize our windows 7 installation.
in my test machine (a virtual machine) it works but when i capture an image and deploy it, sysprep runs again at the end.
so this is what i do:
1. clean install windows 7 in a virtual machine
2. customize the machine.
3. copy the answer file to machine.
4. run the CMD as administrator.
5. run sysprep with the switches \generalize \oobe \shutdown \unattend:C:\path\to\file\test.xml
6. the computer goes through the sysprep and shuts down.
7. start the computer with winpe
8. capture the image with the deployment console. (6.9 sp3)
In the 'new' computer
9. boot with winpe
10. deploy image
11. reboot...
then... the computer starts, and then wants to run sysprep again!
i am sure it is not supposed to do that since in the VM it goes through the process of...

We use DS solely for Server deployments. I am trying to configure the Read/Write cache policies using dynamic raid.
Does anybody know where to locate these settings in the dynamic raid job/script, and how to change the settings for Read ahead/Write through?
Particulars:
- Dell servers (2950, R710)
- Dell Perc 5i and 6i controllers
- Using DS 6.9 sp3
- Using Dell for DS 3.2
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Hello, all..
I know you can get the list of workstations using DS, and I know you can run SQL queries from a DS job, but I just can't seem to put the two together in my head..
I basically just want to get a list of all of the workstations listed on DS.
I know from looking at other forums that you can WRITE to the SQL server via a DS job, but I'm wanting to pipe the results of a query to a text file.
For example:
Export a filter from DS query (http://www.altirigos.com/vbulletin/deployment-serv...)
so I'm assuming I just need the first bit (SELECT DISTINCT dbo.computer.name
FROM dbo.application)
and this thread:
Finding blank Computer Product Name? (http://www.altirigos.com/vbulletin/deployment-serv...)
has a post from Nick on editing the SQL directly..
However, I can't find one which exports the results to a file..
Any chance someone can help me with this?
Kind regards,
Gerard

Hello~
We just started using Sysprep to capture our images. We are using the default.inf in DS. What's happening is after we migrate a pc we get a Windows File Protection error. After some research I've found Sysprep may be the culprit as it has a tendency to change the SourcePath and ServicePackSourcePath in the registry back to the CD-ROM. I've checked the registries of pc's I've migrated and both the paths have been set back to D:\
How can I go about fixing this?
Thanks in advance,
Ann

When creating software deployment jobs within NS it would be great if there was a software prerequisite toolset of some sort. This toolset would allow you to specify OS and application requirements that must be present before software installations can continue.

Two days ago, Symantec posted security advisory SM09-015 -Symantec Altiris Deployment Solution and Notification Server Management Web Console Browse and Save File ActiveX Overflow.
This vulnerability announcement refers to activeX controls downloaded when accessing the web consoles for Notification Server and Deployment Server. These activeX controls have buffer overflow vulnerabilities which can be exploited should any Altiris Administrator/Worker (who uses the web consoles) visit a malicious website, or possibly open a maliciously crafted HTML email which calls the control. The vulnerability potentially allows unauthorised code execution within the security context of the user's browser.
Although the number of machines hosting these vulnerable DLLs is reserved to computers Altiris Administrators and Workers use for web administration of Deployment and Notification Server, please note that Symantec have posted this with a HIGH severity rating. Although Symantec are not aware of any...

I've checked the Symantec Windows 7 support site, but there's no mention of PC Transplant in the Product Support Dates section.
I may be upgrading XP users to Windows 7 and am thinking PC Transplant may help here. Has anyone tried this out? Or does anyone from Symantec have a date as to when PC Transplant may/may not support Windows 7?

the last week, i did a Rip with Rapid Install, then i wanted to create another one, then i erased all baselines (with some files from Rinstall) now i try to create a base line, first it sent a message "can´t find rintall.bin" , i paste rinstall.bin from another installation, but when it try to create a baseline sends a message "error 1". i erase more files (i think ), but i can´t see any changes. i can´t re-install because a lot of users are logged to this computer(server)and if i do any changes, the users can lose data. i need one way to restore Rinstall without reinstall and i have back ups. or Can i replace the folder from any last back up?

I no longer get a menu of choices when I PXE boot. What do I need to check to get the menu back? Instead of a list I only get one choice and that is 0 next boot device.
