Greetings, I am brand new to DS 6.9 and am preparing to install.  We currently have 5 servers (Windows Server 2003 x64 Enterprise SP2) serving various purposes and 2 SANs.  Each server has approx 70GB hardrives (12GB and C: and 58GB on D:)   I have created 5 seperate 100GB volumes on our SANs.  Our HD's came out of the factory partitioned 12:58 and needless to say our C: drives are running out of room.  I have an application that can (in theory) resize our partitions without destroying the data or config but I obviously want to make complete backups before I try using it.  A couple of questions: 1.  Is DS 6.9 the appropriate tool for creating complete, recoverable backups that I can put on to my SANs while I try this resizing app? 2. Do I use DS as a manager (similar to SEPM) with which to implement jobs on my other servers? Thanks in advance and...

Tried doing the most basic of tests I could think of. Run script command with only contents being: pause Boots into WinPE fine, then I get error 1 in the console and it boots back to production. Can't get ImageX commands or anything else to run in WinPE either. :(

Good morning, I recently installed DS 6.9 and I cannot for the life of me access the webconsole.  When i go to http://myserver/DSweb/default.aspx i'm prompted to sign in. I try adminstrator account / local administrator account and the altiris service account I setup.  I've tried my name in the form domain\username as well as just username with no luck.  WHat must I do in order to sign in to the web console?!  I can access it from the regular console just fine... I would like the other technicians to access the console without logging into the server though! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello all,  I have created a MSI package, with WPS 7 SP3, with multiple features. Everything with the package is fine, except when I go to do a uninstall removing just one or two of the features. I can uninstall, using "modify" or "remove", but with modify I have to do one feature at a time and remove catches the "REMOVE~="ALL"" and will remove everything. What I am looking for is a way to use the modfiy area, in maintenance mode, to select only one or two features and have it remove just those. If I use "REMOVE~="Feature_name"", doing one IF for each feature name, it does not catch every feature name in it's own IF. What appears to be happening is all the names of the features being removed are put in the comma delineated line, and this is too much for the "REMOVE~="Feature_name"" qualifier. Thank you in advance for any assistance provided. Regards, Brian M.

What is the proper way to delete PE 1.6 MSD drivers from DS 6.9 Bootdisk Creator? Can the folder just be deleted from: express\Bootwiz\platforms\Winpe\x86\Drivers\CUSTOM\I386\system32\diskdrivers? Or is there more that should be done? Also, when you add a txtsetup.oem file from within bootdisk creator, does it include support for all of the devices in the file, or only the one specified under [Defaults]?

I have setup our PXE server the way we want it. (PXE menu) Does anyone know a way to copy this configuration to other PXE servers in our environment? Is there way to copy the PXE menu to a new PXE server? Thanks!

I am trying to get our 760 to boot and connect using WinPE x64.  I am using DS 6.9 SP3.  I have tried to do the get driver but apparently I can not get to the site or it has been taken down.  I didn't realize until later that WinPE x32 does work but I would prefer to use x64 so computers that don't support 64 bit can't boot to the automation.  Anyone know how to get/install WinPE x64 drivers?

Hello, This is more of a feature request, but I was wondering if anyone else out there had a desire to do this, or had a suggestion/work around that might work just as well. I would like to see the ability to creat symbolic links to jobs. The idea being that there is one group, lets call it "Software", that has all my software install jobs within it. I then want to be able to create a second group called "Accounting" and have the ability to link all the software that Accounting needs to that group. Then create a thrid group called "Research" and then again link all the software that Research needs to that group. I could then just drag a computer from account to that group, and it would run the necessary jobs for that computer. I know there is the ability to create a job and then once that job completes, have it schedule and run another job, however, this does not help should I create a job called "Installer 2.1"...

For those who are staring at the incoming tsunami called Windows 7, here are some resources that might help get you going. There will be more to come, but this is a good start... Here is a link to the general philosophy around how to pull off a Windows 7 migration or namely, the 7 Steps to Windows 7. and here is a link to a technical whitepaper on using DS 6.9 SP3 for a Windows 7 migration. Be sure to check out general Symantec Windows 7 support site at Symantec.com. Enjoy!

I must say that I need more help from Symantec to ensure a smooth migration from XP to Windows 7.  There needs to be some serious white papers written that talk us step by step how to go to Windows 7.  We need to have the PCT do what it is expected to do.  Mine always gets an error -1.  Then some help on making HII for Windows 7 complete with Firm injection of drivers and aclient inp info.  Finally a way to distribute that PCT.  Come on Symantec we need ya!

Hi I have a Problem with RDP 6.9 and Installationjob for Server 2008. For Server 2003 we have a little command that the computer name will be the same as the name given for the server in the Deployment Software. But in WAIK I can’t copy the code while the Box has a maxlenght of 15 characters. Is there any way to solve the problem? Code %#*"select right(replace([name],' ',''),15) from computer where computer_id={ID}"% best regards Martin

I have just upgraded to CMS 7 and I am having problems capturing an image for deployment. I have created the script job to copy the deploy.cab to the c:\sysprep folder on the client. Then I run the capture Image job, it runs the sysprep, runs the first 2 tasks and then waits. I think it is waiting for some communication from the Client, but the sysprep has uninstalled the NIC. Do I need to boot from a boot CD at this point. Thanks, Steve.

Is anyone currently using Deployment Server to deploy software to Windows 7 computers? We just got our OS deployment working but are receiving error 1603 when attempting to deploy software. Sometimes a reboot fixes the installation, other times we have success by disabling UAC and the firewall. I would like to know how other companies are deploying software.

Hey all,  I've been using Ds 6.9 for many years now for imaging HP Thin clients that are used as a kisok.  We are now going to be deploying many many more of these for all different types of functions and in many different locations. I don't think this is possible in 6.9 but can you create a scope based on an IP range that if someone picks up a Thin Client from location A and moved it to location B I would need to to dynamamically move in the tree view on the console...  make sense?   Is this an option in 7.1? Thanks!

We just setup a new VM server running vSphere 4. I was confused to find that the hard drives where not being discovered with our WinPE 2.1 image even though it works fine with ESX 3.5 servers. I figured I would just pull the latest SCSI driver from the VM Tools and rebuild my WinPE image with the new driver through the wizard. However, I have tryed every driver and still can't get it to mount any drives. Anyone know how to get around this? I tried everything here: http://www.altirigos.com/vbulletin/winpe-bartpe/8722-winpe-2-1-vm-drivers.html

I had a deployment job for the installation of pdf converter software functioning through a script and accidentally deleted the job.  I recreated the job, but now it does not seem to work through the deployment server.  I can, however, copy the script to a computer and run it succesfully from the command prompt, so I dont think the script is the problem.  The installaion of the software calls for ISScript10.Msi to be installed before the actual application,  Scansfot PDF Professional 3.0.msi.  ISScript10.msi and ScanSoft PDF Professional 3.0 both install successfully according to the Windows event log, but the application is not actually in Add/Remove programs, Programs Menu or in the toolbar of MS Office applications as it should be. BTW, I'm solely using the deployment web console. Thanks

Do I need to install the  'WinPE Automation Environments for Deployment Solution 6.9 SP3 for 64-bit (x64)' to image 64-bit Windows 7 clients?  Or is this package only needed if you're running a 64-bit DS server (I'm not)? -Mike

We have recently upgraded our Deployment Solution to 6.9 SP3 from 6.8 SP2. Since the upgrade we have lost the visibility of the logged on user from within the console. All PCs just show as turned on or off and not showing the little head image if someone is logged in. Is there an agent setting that has changed? I have found on another forum somewhere that it will only work if the Terminal Services service is started, however we cannot have this service enabled on the desktops. Is there another workaround for this? Many Thanks

Hi, I just want to ask. What are the difference between DAgent and Aclient? We're using DS 6.9 SP2 and when I tried to use Dagent instead of AClient.. When I deploy software packages it go through using silent install but some of the software that I install it doesn't work. and also CHAT is not supported by DAgent. Our PC is only windows XP.. and for AClient.. when I use it to deploy software packages it go through but it needs user intervention to install the software successfully. Is there a way to install software packages using AClient without user intervention? or SILENT install?  I dont want user to know that Im installing software to there PC.. please help me.. Thank you..

I am in the process of doing an OS Image refresh for the company and I am having trouble after the OS image gets layed down on a machine. The HII imaging works great, the machine runs through setup manager fine. After all the drivers are loaded during setupmgr, the machine boots to production (as it should). Then my next task in altiris kicks off. The task is a (copy file to) job transfer to my coreapps bundled installs. However at this point the first task in this bundle 'isscript 8 install' bombs out giving me an access denied error message. Now if i reboot the machine once more manually, I can then kick off the core apps bundle without a problem. I am trying to figure out why DS is shooting me this error message. The machine has been added to the domain properly and everything seems to check out okay. I can login to the box fine and all.  I have seen this issue before about two years ago but I forgot what I did to resolve it. Any suggestions?
