I'm working on creating a workflow project for Asset Moves and Disposals. Right now at the end, I've got a task for the workers assigned to the Asset Management queue to manually go in and change the Asset's Status to Disposed after all the prerequisite approvals in the Workflow are finished. I was wondering if anyone has tried to automate changing the Status of an Asset in Workflow or a SQL script. How would I go about doing this? Any pointers on the SQL I'd need to run would be welcome. Thanks!

Hello,   I am looking for a script which will allow me to change a "retired" computer to "active" remotely. The script should take the computer name as a parameter.  I am using NS 6.0 Sp3 and Asset managemetn Solution 6.5. I am not looking into doing it manually from the Altiris Console.   Thank you, Peter

After entering a line item. The item appears in the order and then this error comes up: See attached. it is iexplorer error and knock me completely out of the console.

We are using Altiris console version 6.0.6074(SP 3 + R8).  We moved a Data Class to new location and cannot move back to original location.  Moved it from Contract Data Classes to the User Defined folder but when we try to move back the original folder is not available in the Move Item - Web Page Dialog box.  This moving process messed up the Resource Type - Software Purchase.  Now when we try to create a new import rule and point to the Resource Type with the data class we moved we get a server error below.   Server Error in '/Altiris/Connector' Application. Runtime Error Description: An application error occurred on the server. When working with Asset management there are occassions where there is incorrect or missing data within some of the asset summary fields such as the system manufacturer or model. This becomes especially problematic depending on the reports your asset management team uses to keep track of hardware in your environment. It may be that your manufacturer is missing from some of your assets. In this case you can use the built in Dell hardware collections or create your own Dell collection to update the manufacturer to Dell for all your Dell workstations. Using the bsaic inventory you should be able to create collections for IBM, Lenovo, HP, etc to update the manufacturer information for all of your systems. In order to do this from the 6.5 console go to View > Configuration > Solution Settings > Connectors > CMDB Rules and create a new CMDB rule from scratch or clone one of the sample CMDB rules already there. The attached download queries the wmi class cim_datafile for files with certain extension. The wmi class contains all data normally found in the file header information and more! Querying this wmi class has proven to be many, many times faster than scanning a hard drive for file information. This sample has logic to query for all 'local drives' and to skip specified directories. The query logic itself currently queries on 'Extension' but can be modified to query on any other value in the wmi class. The NS7 custom inventory table xml file has been included.

A while ago EMarcado put together a vbscript to rapidly install the altiris agent. The article is here: Install Altiris Agent for Immediate Software Delivery For some reason we could never get it to work so we reworked it a bit. The result is now attached. The one issue I have been wondering about is why would the agent, after having been successfully installed, take so long to receive the GUID?  Cheers J

Has anyone created a report that will show, by manager, assets assigned to users and/or departments with Hierarchy.  For example: President    Vice President       Manager          User Run a report from the Manger level that will show users and assets they are responsible for or run a report from the VP level that will show all managers under that VP, as well as the users and their assets.

We have a user define data class called LCCC_ID. This is for our Audio Visual Equipment to have an auto generated number assigned to the Asset.  When the user brings up the one asset with all the details, the auto generate number yellow star appears next to the id number.  I want this number to be display only so it cannot be changed by anyone. Do I maybe copy this number to a different data class and make that read only?  Will that work. We are currently using version 6.5 console. Thanks! What are the steps to repair Barcode solution 6.7.8 ?When trying to run a repair through add/remove programs, the repair cannot find the msi file. What would the msi file for 6.7.8 be named? I see several barcode.msi files in the setup files folder. But, none that say 6.7.8 which is the version that shows installed under the configuration tab\upgrade install solution. Any ideas ?

We recently had an issue where we repaired Notification Server. As a result of this repair, we then had to repair each individual solution. Since repairing Asset, the yellow asterisk which we would click on to create a new resource in any of the catalogs (fixed asset,consumable...etc) no longer exists. What can we do to fix this? I am attaching a screen shot of what we are seeing now.

Is there any way the Trusted Advisors could get access to beta products like the partners do?  Due to the approval process for getting servers at my organization I'm just now getting the ability to test Service Desk 7.  I know there good reasons for Partners to have that, but I was hoping we might be able to get that too.  A good example would be a pending Asset 7 beta and subsequent release.  I'm worried that a bunch of Asset 7 questions will come up right away and people might feel a little stranded since we TAs hadn't had access to it either.

Hi! We have a major performance issue with our IT Asset Management, the Altiris Notification Server is killing the SQL server by pushing to many transactions consequently... The SQL server (on the same machine of the Notification Server) disk queue lenght is reaching 35-40 wihch is very too much, slowing down everything on the server all day long. We have approx. 800 Windows workstations running the Altiris Agent, and the server is a 2 Xeon 3.0 GHz, 4 GB ram... the disk is a RAID-5 array. As soon as we disable the "Enable Notification Server Processing", the disk queue lenght is returning to 0-3 which is normal and the server is functionning properly again. Hello, I need to know whether Service and Asset Management Suite version 7 is released or no, and what modules does it contain? I have Service Desk 7 and need to implement Change Management, Asset Management and Inventory Management modules. Hi, I am new user to altiris and I am trying to set up a Asset management server, Need information on the pre-requisities of the servers to be setup( like NS, deployment server etc). Hi! We run an Altiris IT Asset Management on a Dell PowerEdge 2850 (dual Xeon 3GHz, 4 GB, internal RAID-5) and everything have been installed on this server (SQL 2000 included).  We are managing approx. 800 Windows workstations, and we do incidents management with this system. The problem is, we get really poor performance... the server disk queue lenght is always around 35 (which is very high), and it is very difficult to work with consoles (very slow, we can wait 1-2 minutes before getting results sometime!). After taking a look at the SQL profiler, we saw that the disk queue lenght is hitting 35-40 only when the Altiris Notification Server is updating database records... but this is 90% of the time (50 min. /hour). I think it needs C# code here which I’m a bit lost with so any help would be appreciated…  The doco actually says that the pre-processing function is in C# you see…   I am importing user items from a SAP export (excel format) and I need to derive a FULL NAME column from the import.  The import has the columns “First Name” and “Last Name”.   Normally I’d take care of this via the import/export rule and do an expression (which does work using the expression [First Name] + ‘ ‘ + [Last Name]).  However, doing it this way means that I can’t make the ALTIRIS name of the record the derived full name.  So, I need to take care of this as a data source rule so that it is presented to the import/export rule as a Full Name from the source.   Looking at the data source (which is an excel spreadsheet), clicking on pre-process import data gives me some sample code but all I need to do as part of...

we have the asset managemetn suite, i'm trying to setup the hardware iventory part of it. do you have to use the barcoding soluation to be able import the new hardware (laptops desktops) before they are "discovered" on the network? How else do you add new hardware, barring manual typing..

I have noticed a few problems after repairing the Asset solution. When creating a new purchase request or purchase order the order number has now been reset to 000001. But ,when your try to use that number it says that it is already used. We then have to go back and look at the last request and see what number was used then enter the next number. Before the repair we would just have to use the number that came up in the number field.   Can this be fixed?

Hi, Can any one tell me how to upgrade asset management 6.2 to 6.5 I have installed Helpdesk 6.5 Asset management 6.2  Have to move to 6.5 CMS 7 How i can move from asset 6.2 to 6.5  and set the CMS 7 to communicate with eachother including Helpdesk 6.5 is there any step by step help available can any one help me Best regards
