Running Backup Exec 12.5 on Windows 2008 Server, have a weekly backup jobs of about 526gb, however when try to open the job history it hangs with (not responding). Works fine on all other jobs which are of similiar size, my only problem is that there are errors mentioned within this job ( E000954C ) but I cannot see what the error is as I cannot open the job log. Have tried opening through the Alerts window but get the (not responding). Is there any way of seeing this log?

Hello everybody,
We have several servers running Backup Exec 12.5 in our network, but 1 of them is doing something odd.
This particular server keeps downloading the URI http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/thre..., every 5 minutes.
I can't find anything in Backup Exec that would need a file like that, nor can I find any setting that controls this behaviour.
I would like to turn this off completely because it's clogging our webfilter logs with unnecessary notifications.
None of the other BE 12.5 servers are doing this, I have no idea why this server is acting the way it is.
There is no Symantec AV installed on the server, nor any other Symantec product. LiveUpdate is scheduled to run on a weekly basis so that's not it either.
Using Microsoft Network Monitor 3.3 I found out the process beserver.exe is responsible.
Can anyone please help me solve this?
Thanks.

Hi
We have a Backup Exec 12.0 SP3 server that has worked quite fine for som time now. Suddenly, last friday, I got the errormessage "media operation was terminated by the user .....8445HEX for our full backup. The backup job had done 2.8 TB of 3.2 TB total so it was almost done. The errormessage indicates a VRTSwebservice but I don't think that we are using one and I can't fint any directory named VRTS. What can be the problem?
We backup files to disk, not to tape.
Thanks
Anders

It would be nice when download multiple hotfixes , Symantec only restarts the services at the end of applying the last hotfix. Now it takes longer time as it stop and restart with every hot fix.

We are backing up an sbs server 2003 which has sharepoint 2.0 installed on it.
This backs up up the 2.0 sql instances fine, however the sbs server once has sharepoint 3.0 on it whicha has been uninstalled. The back exec still thinks the old 3.0 instances of the old sharepoint 3.0 sql database still exists and trys to back it up. These instances do not exist on the sbs server anymore. Backup exec is still attempting to back these phantom instance up...and cause the backup to report as failed.
Please see except from log file below: (Can some one help please!)

Hi:
I have a 2008 R2 server with BE 12.5 fully patched. I'm running jobs just fine to a few RD1000 cartridges. What I would like to do is take the completed backup (copy job or regular full that run to the cartridges) fom the 2008 R2 server and plug it into a different 2008 server (not R2 but runs fully patched BE 12.5) and run the contents of the RD1000 cartridge off to the LTO2 tape drive that is connected to that server for long term backups. The problem is when I connect the RD1000 cartridges up to the 2008 server they do not show up as a drive letter. If I go to storage manager in windows it wants me to initialize it as if it's new media. If I put the cartridge back into the 2008 R2 server I can read the data on it just fine in explorer and in BE.
Any ideas why this happens? Maybe I'm just missing something simple?
thanks

I purchased a Tandberg LTO3 tape drive and it came with the QuickStart Edition of Backup Exec. I ran Liveupdate on it and it downloaded SP2 for Backup Exec 12.5. Now I am not able to use the tape drive. I looked in the device manager, however it has the exclamation in front of it. The research that I have done states that I need the hotfix 327966, which has the lastest drivers. This still did not work. Any ideas how I can resolve this?

Basically we can't run all our Full backups on one night. The end result is that we have about 5 policies, each one has it's full backup on a different day. Incrementals are nightly unless a full takes priority.
To this I have about 5 backup sets, each set has 2-3 servers in it.
This works great, except for a few things.
Exports only need to occur on a weekly basis since we aren't required to export the incrementals, BE 12 has no way to accomodate this... I am trying to use bemcmd.exe and a SQL query to export tapes on the last job of the week, but still fighting some scripting issues which is a whole other topic!!
Other issue is the logs, I end up with SO many policies and logs.
I was thinking of breaking down my selection lists further, so instead of "set 1" which includes 2-3 servers, each server would have it's own selection list....
This would make the logging insane, so many logs... but it would be easy to look at metrics and find thigns in...

Hi
I’m trying to configure a D2D (no tape) backup to a NAS box.
What I need to accomplish is this:
Saturday Full backup to folder “Weekly” on my NAS. Keep the ability to restore 10 weeks back (only Saturdays)
Monday - Friday differential backup to folder “Daily” on my NAS. Overwrite each “day” the following week.
I’ve created to Jobs (Weekly backup / Daily backup) and two Media Sets (Daily / Weekly)
The Weekly job have the “overwrite” parameter set!
The Weekly Media set have 10 weeks of protection and append set to “none”
The Daily job have the “overwrite / append” parameter set!
The Daily Media set have 6 days of protection and append set to “none” (I expect it to create more files if needed?? And the reuse them when overwrite protection expires??)
Both jobs have "software compression" set.
Is this the right way to accomplish my...

I was encountering error e000fe34 and applied this fix: http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/286808.htm
but now the separate backup for the utilities partition is coming up with the same error.
Is there another workaround?

Hi,
I am trying to do the IDR restore for a Windows XP machine with a new hard drive. I am using BE12.5, and I created the boot cd sucessfully. I pop the disk in, went through the manual restor, restore from a remote media, enter the server name and got to the part where they ask you to submit the job from the media server. I started the job just fine, but it would run until 95%, then the error: Access denied would pop up at the client end, and I have to cancel
the job. I went back to the media server and look at the logbook, the error is:
"Completed status: Failed Final error: 0xe0008488 - Access is denied. Final error category: Security Errors "
I have tried with local admin as well as domain admin account, they all failed. I also made sure the username didn't include the work admin in it because I read some thread and it says it could be a potential problem....

We are running Back up exec server edition 12 on a Win Server2003 R2 on a very old server.
I am planning a server upgrade and have a few questions.
I purchased one good new server (Dell R710). Is there any compatibility issues that I should be aware of?
Will Back up Exec 12 run on Server 2008 64 bit or would Server2008 R1 or Server 2003 R2 be better?
Will Microsoft Hyper V on Server 2008 R2 cause issues?
Do you have a migration plan for me to follow?
I run Symantec 11.0.4 End Point Protection on server and desktops. Any issues with this program?
Any program compatibility issues I need to be aware of?
Worried!

Can someone point me to descriptions of the alert notifications for BE12.5? I would like to know the reason(s) each specific alert occurs so I can advise the operator which actions to take or troubleshoot a device or media in question.

Hi symantec community,
I've been delving over PDFs and Manuals over all symantec and still cant get a straight response, even i tried to get email support (and telephone) and it redirects me to symantec connect.
The problem is that i need an official response from Symantec that Backup Exec 12.5 SP2 does not support security roles, and it depends entirely on windows permissions.
I know ofr fact that it is as im descrbing it, but still i need an official response for a report over an installation of Backup Exec.
anything that you recommend or require i'll be glad to help!
Thanks for your time!

Hi Team.
Can someone tell me why the following would happen.
We have a HP server with Hyper-V (Windows 2008 Ent Edition R2) connected to this server is a HP Storageworks 1/8 autoloader and Symantec backup exec 12.5.
For some strange reason I get "unknown error" where running backups within Symantec.
The above error only seems to happen with large backup / smaller backup like 2GB work 100%
Another thing i have noticed is that if i shut down both the server and the autoloader and boot both of them up at the same time my Virtual servers don’t start up.
If i only boot the server, then the virtual servers boot up 100%.
Are there any known issue with regards to Hyper-V and Symantec Backup Exec 12.5 or the HP P800 Controller (3B1513-B1) or the HP Single CH U320 SCSI Adapter?
Your assistance and comments would be greatly appreciated.

Is there a way that I can select a specific list that resides within a team site and just back that up or just restore it? I can not seem to figure out how to do it. Thanks for your help.

We plan to migrate to Exchange 2010.
Does Symantec plan to support Exchange 2010 in Backup Exec 12.5?

After peforming a disk cleanup about a week ago, our backups stopped working on one of the servers due to not being to connect to remote agent. However the case is that we do not use remote agent on any other servers as we are only backing up the local dirves on that paticular server and have diffrent backup method for the other servers.
After investigating further and trying a clean reinstall of backup exec 9.1 we still have the same problem. We are only wanting to backup to local drives but it will not allow us due to being unable to connect to remote agent.
Any solutions or advice to this would be useful
Thankyou.
