Hi,
We are going to perform a scheduled reboot in the primary node which is serving only one service group.
We do not want to switch over the SG to the backup node while the node gets rebooted.
How to do that. I heard that while rebooting the primary ndoe vcs 5.0 will invoke hastop -local -evacuate ..so i tried to disable the autoevacuate in the SG.
I set autoevacuate to 255 ( thought anyvalue greater than 0 will disable it). But it didn't worked . the SG failed over to next node while the server gets rebooted.
2. Disable the autofailover for the SG.
3.when i booked a case with symantec they suggested to freeze the sg temporarily or permamnently.
but as far as i know, Temporary freeze willl work till the had stops. so in that case the method will fail..so a permanent freeze of SG will help ?
4. The symantec engineer asked me to offline the sg, freeze it. and then do the reboot...- will it work ?
What is the VCS behaviour when i reboot the server manually..how to keep the...

Hello everyone,
We had a great meeting on Nov 18th with Mark Salmon presenting a technical review of Veritas Cluster Server (VCS) and the associated VCS testing tool called FireDrill. These are two really great products from Symantec that are definitely leaders in their space.
I have attached the two (2) presentations to this message for you to download and review.
Thank you again to Symantec for the excellent food and door prizes and we hope everyone has a wonderful holiday season with Thanksgiving and Christmas just around the corner. We will plan to meet again sometime around February next year to get everything off to a great start.
And don't forget, UserGroup members get an awesome $400 off Symantec Vision registration, a $175 MGM Gift Card, and a limited edition Symantec Vision jacket!!! Must register before March 12, 2010 and use the promo code: VISUG when registering.

Excuse me if this is answered elswhere; my limit for searching and poking sprawling forums and knowledgebases for answers is 1 hour.
It appears there is a fundamental change in the management software between these two versions. Version 5.0 doesn't seem to require an "Authentication Broker," but version 5.5 (included in the 5.0 VCS installation CD) does.
Is there any risk that the 5.0 VCS console is going to go unsupported? We'd like to avoid the time and hassle of implementing the broker (bloater?) service required for the 5.5 console. For the limited number of clusters we support it's absolutely not necessary.
Thanks in advance!

Hello
I use VCS 4.1 and have problem with shared folders.
When i try to switch resources from one to another nod 3 of shared folders, that are mounted with NFS are unable to unmont from one nod and mount to another nod.
I'm not to familiar with the cluster and I don't know what kind of information to give you to check where is the problem. I will post main.cf. Please help me to resolve the problem.

Hi Gurus,
I have a question related to Veritas Cluster 5.0. I have configured HA setup using two nodes. I have installed my prodcut in both the nodes. Now I can access my product using the Virtual IP address. But the fact is my product runs based on the server hostname. So as like as Virtual IP address , if there is virtual hostname then i dont want to install product on both the nodes. Instead i can use a storage array in between and install prodcut on that storage array using virtual hostname which is created when configuring the cluster.
Can anyone help me on this problem.
With Regards,
Sri

Hi all,
I have installed a VCS version 5.0 MP3 on a two RedHat EL 5.3 64bit nodes, this servers share four SAN disks that are connected by two fibre channel on each server, the multiple links with the SAN are managed with linux multipath daemon.
I have configured two types of resources in a one service group: Volume group and File system. The cluster, at the boot time, should import the Volume Group (and activate the logical volume that it contain) and mount the filesystems that is associated with the logical volume. This steps works fine without problems and the Volume group and File system start correctly and works fine, but, after some minutes, these resources do an auto-switch on the second node without reason.
In the engine.log I can see this at the switch time :
The first message speak about a resource "oradbvg" (is one of my shared volume group) that became online on the second node, but I don't start the resource on the second node.

We are currenlty researching Veritas Cluster Server as a potential candidate for a clustering solution for our product.
Our application uses:
Microsoft Windows 2008 Server standard edition.
SQL Server 2008 standard edition.
Microsoft .Net framework 3.5 WCF services on net.tcp and net.pipe protocols
We are trying to figure out whether Veritas Cluster server supports all above these?
Also please suggest any online resources/ebooks on cluster server that will help us for head start on this.
Thanks very much for your valuable inputs.

I have an HA-Oracle environment, and I am adding in HA-Tuxedo to cluster Peoplesoft Enterprise Servers. I've followed the manual and created the appropriate environment files and can bring up the process schedulers successfully outside of VCS, but when I try to online the Tuxedo resources, they become faulted. It appears from the VCS logs that the monitor process does not find the required processes and bails out, faulting the resource. I do see the error messages seen below in the Tuxedo log (not the VCS tuxedo log).
Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

In all versions of Storage Foundation suite, Symantec provides a feature of IOFencing to prevent Cluster Split Brain situation & prevent data corruption.
As per design, IOFencing is a passive module i.e it doesn't react live unless there is any GAB port membership change. In case cluster keeps running fine, there is no check which is done by IOFencing module.
It would be great if IOFencing module is made intelligent so that it performs frequent checks whether the coordinator disks have appropriate registration keys & the data disks have appropriate registration & reservation keys.
There are many occurances faced in real life scenario when disks have stale keys it is realized much later once issue occurs. Very common issue we face on our environment is diskgroup not getting imported with an error "diskgroup has no valid configuration copies", the result we find is disks are left with stale keys because of which vxvm is not able to access the private region...

all,
a customer has a 2 nodes cluster VCS5.0 with AIX 5.2.
His goal is to go to AIX 5.3 TL9
then we need before to upgrade to VCS5.0 MP1
After upgrading in MP1 everithing fine !
Then migrating from AIX 5.2 to 5.3, here appears the problem : each time the 2 nodes see themselves then one of both hangs...
Because of production, now one is Running and the other is stopped.
if someone has ideas, welcome !

Hello,
I have a cluster of one server with internal disks, because I will replicate this to secondary location and have global cluster (with only 2 servers)
I will run Oracle there.
I created disk group on internal disks using "vxclus usesystembus on"
But when I run Oracle agent configuration wizard, I get Error V-16-13-6529, that there is no shared volume
Any suggestions on how to configure Oracle cluster on internal disks ?
thank you
Juro

Hi.
As part as my company solution we are using the Veritas Solution to provide HA for our Server SW.
I was looking into an option to use the same Veritas Technology to provide HA when I dont have 2 physical servers and use VMware VMs.
Is that possible?
Since the VM can be configured to use as many NICs needed I was wondering if this is even a problem...
Are there any special configuration that are different from using physical machines?
The main idea behind this is for a Lab not Production.
Thanks in adavance.

Hi all,
I try to create a rule that starts after a SG comes online.
In Cluster Server Management Console I created a Notification Policy and a perl script. (Create a file, nothing difficult)
When a SG comes online the test.pl script does not run.
What am I doing wrong?
All help appreciated.

Overview
Storage Foundation HA 5.1 introduces keyless feature enablement. The primary objective of keyless is to improve the customer experience with Storage Foundation HA (SFHA) and make it easier to deploy, manage and use our products. Note that a customer continues to be required to have valid licenses for the product he/she is running. Entitlement does not change in 5.1
Review the information provided below as well as the attached pdf to learn more.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is the advantage of using keyless versus standard licensing?
Keyless simplifies the task of a system admin deploying SFHA in a production environment. It also results in better overall system availability in a production environment by removing the need for temporary license keys.
Before 5.1, license keys were required for SFHA to be functional on a host. If at time of deployment, a system admin didn't have the appropriate key handy (which can happen for a variety of reasons), he...

I need to build a Disaster Recovery using Veritas Cluster and VVR. I need to have HA on Oracle 10g and Tomcat. This should be cheap as possible. This is not so data-intensive application.
This would be only 2 servers setup. I will have 2 clusters. Each with 1 server. I will use local disks. Then there will be replication between and having a Global cluster.
This are the only 2 servers on network with no domain or DNS. So one of these servers should be DNS and Domain. I think the backup server should be domain and DNS server. Is this OKay ? Or the domain server should be on third server or both servers ? Isn't this (domain and DNS) a single point of failure ? I am not sure how to setup this.
I will use 5.1 VCS HA with VVR on Windows 2003 R2 SE. Any help or idea appreciated.

As background, we are implementing a shared MultiNICB resource using Veritas Storage Foundation HA 5.0 on Solaris 10 5/09.
I am having a problem with an IPMultiNICB resource (IPMNICB_app) faulting when its proxy (ProxyMNB_app) of the shared MultiNICB resource (MNB_ora) faults due to network failures. This fault must be cleared manually. This only happens for the IPMultiNICB resource (IPMNICB_app) that is tied through the proxy to the MultiNICB resource (MNB_ora) in the other group. The IPMultiNICB resource (IPMNICB_ora) in the group with the MultiNICB resouce (MNB_ora) never faults.
I am looking for a solution that either:
a) prevents IPMNICB_app from faulting when MNB_ora faults, or
b) automatically clears IPMNICB_app's fault when MNB_ora's fault clears.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Keith

Recently we got an escalation from the field on AIX in which we saw that gab paniced the node because it got a packet with a wrong sequence number. On further debugging we found that everything was correct except that 1 bit in the gab sequence number was flipped from 0 to 1 thus causing gab to panic the node since it suspected data corruption.
So, we asked the customer to enable LLT checksums (which are disabled by default) and see what happens. With LLT checksums enabled we saw that one of the LLT links reported a few LLT checksums errors and then again gab paniced the node with the same error - same sequence number bit flipped from a 0 to a 1.
So, we then asked the customer to turn on LLT checksum level 2. This level basically calculates 2 checksums, one for the messages received from gab (called mcksum - which is verified for corruption just before we deliver the msg to gab on the receiver) and one for the full packet which is calculated just...
