Now in its third year, Symantec’s 2010 State of the Data Center study is a yearly report that highlights trends regarding data centers in companies worldwide. Conducted by Applied Research, the 2010 survey is based on input from 1,780 data center managers in 26 countries in November 2009. For the first time since the report was introduced in 2006, Symantec found that mid-sized enterprises rather than large or small organizations are vanguards of the data center; they lead in new technology adoption, data center change, and focus on staffing.  The report also noted that the most important initiatives for 2010 are security, backup and recovery, and continuous data protection. At the same time, the study also found that IT organizations continue to face ongoing, familiar challenges such as increased data center complexity, reduced or flat resources and budgets, and incomplete disaster recovery plans. Presenter by: Sean Derrington, Director of Storage Management and High...

We've completed the work to merge the existing Storage Management and Clustering & Replication communities into a single community area. Since Connect launched last March, a good number of the storage posts and content have spanned the two communities. We realize that this means that many of you have been tracking content from both areas, and hope that this improvement will make it easier and faster for you to find and share information about Storage and High Availability products. So what's new?  A Storage & Clustering community that includes Storage Foundation, Storage Foundation for Windows, Cluster Server, Cluster Server One, CommandCentral, FileStore, Volume Replicator, and SFHA Management Tool product information, all in one community. How will this help you? You won't see duplicated content between the two communities. You won't have to go to two communities to view product forums. We will have technical expertise regarding Storage and High Availability in...

What is FileConnect? FileConnect is the Symantec site from which business customers download product binaries. Its url is http://fileconnect.symantec.com Logging in to FileConnect requires a serial number; that serial number is not the product license key. The serial number is provided to customers after purchase. Many, but not all, Symantec products for business customers are also posted on Symantec’s Trialware site. This site requires a SymAccount login rather than a Serial Number. Trialware’s url is http://www.symantec.com/business/products/licensing/trialware.jsp What is being done? The Symantec product group for SFHA and CommandCentral:Storage is rolling out standardized file names for files posted on / downloaded from FileConnect. This aims to improve usability and to create a more uniform and predictable experience. To what versions do these rules apply? For products in the Storage Foundation & VCS families, these names apply from 5.0 on UNIX and 5.1 on...
