Hi guys... The problem i'm having is that two client pc are not connecting to the sepm management server... Things I have tried 1. Uninstalled completly the sep on the client pc using cleanwipe and reinstall it by puch to deploy method.. - Sep virus definition shows to be 21 November 2008.. and on "toubleshoot" management> the server status is "offline" 2. I have used smc -stop, then copied the "sylink.xml" file from a working client pc then replaced it to the not working one then did smc -start again.. but same result.. 3. I have ran the sep_support tool, no particular errors was found.. just showed  that the definition was outdated and showing up a link to download the latest definition update.. tried that as well which will update the definition but not solving the communication problem of the client to the sepm... Any sugguestions will be much appreciated.. cheers.. Ash

I posted this in the NetBackup forum and it was suggested that I might try posting it here also.   I'm trying to open a NetBackup issue in MySupport and every time I try to enter my support ID, I get the following error:   MySupport Application Error The MySupport application has encountered a program error. You can either try again or contact  Symantec Technical Services Thank you for your patience.   I've been trying to do this since Friday.  I've followed the link to try to contact Symantec Technical Services, but my reports of this error have gone unanswered.   Is there anyone on this forum that can help me?  I apologize if I posted this in the wrong forum.   Thanks, Chris

Switzerland has always seemed like a calm, safe place to me. It seems kind of aloof from the digital hullabaloo of nations like China or Russia or even the US.  So it wasn’t all that surprising when I read that security threats in Switzerland have historically been lower than in these other nations. But as phishing and hacking go global, no country is safe from security threats—especially a country with targets as prosperous as Switzerland’s.    Pharmaceutical company Tecan Trading AG may not be a Swiss bank—but it needs security just as robust as if it were. Click here to learn how Tecan uses Symantec Endpoint Protection to keep its endpoints safe worldwide.

Developing and integrating a strategic corporate responsibility/sustainability program continues to be a goal here at Symantec. We realize that it is indeed a journey and that all of the pieces are not going to fall into place quickly and easily. We also realize that we are always learning about the issues and opportunities presented. Engaging with our stakeholders is a primary tenet of our developing program. Here at Symantec our relationships have evolved to include a diverse set of corporate responsibility stakeholders. These stakeholders are subject matter experts, customers, partners, employees, shareholders, leaders, and ordinary citizens with a belief that business has an enormous opportunity to play, a valuable role in shaping a better future for all of us. These stakeholders have helped us in ways both large and small – they have shaped our strategy and kept us on the forefront of emerging issues. The next step in our journey is the roll out of our social media...

On a day today basis, so many natural disaster happen in this world and we people are looking for mechanism to prevent the same or detect the same initially itself. We are speaking of so many new technologies and we are not at all working it out. Think of the incidents like Missing Chopper of a CM in India, Tsunami which struck the Eastern Coast of India, Missing AirFrance in the Atlantic. Like this there are so many incidents, which keeps annoying technology people on how to initially detect or how to find the missing things once the disaster has happened. The lack of usage in technology in many of the developed nation is the reason for the same.    We are spending lots and lots of amount for rescue and search operation when a disaster like this has happened. If we have taken an extra mile in implementing the technology in the natural or unexpected diasters, these kind of rescue operations will be made simple and in some times, we can even prevent the loss due to...

On March 8th, nations around the world will celebrate International Women’s Day, a global event recognizing the economic, political, and social achievements of women past, present, and future. To commemorate this year’s celebration of women, Symantec is sponsoring the UN Global Compact’s and UNIFEM’s Equality Means Business event on March 9th. In addition to honoring International Women’s Day, the event will launch the Women’s Empowerment Principles and explore their practical relevance for business. Symantec’s Corporate Responsibility Director Cecily Joseph will be in attendance at the event.   Improving opportunities for women at Symantec In October 2007, Symantec adopted the Calvert Women’s Principles™ as part of its Diversity & Inclusion initiatives. The Principles are the first global code of corporate conduct focused exclusively on women’s issues.   Symantec has also forged relationships with a...

The whole idea behind managed Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) clients is being able to centrally configure the behavior of these clients in Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM).  One very important aspect of this is being able to configure CENTRALLY how the client behaves when malware is found during a scheduled local scan.  SEPM has Administrator-defined Scans which have centrally configured behavior for a single scheduled scan time per policy/group; however, the need for an individually scheduled scan is essential for large sites (hundreds of clients) because the Administrator-defined Scans scheduling is the opposite of granular, i.e., one size does not fit all.  This is because a complete scan of local disks is the most resource intensive SEP task and each user usually has a different time when this is an acceptable load. Another important point is that Symantec System Center (SSC) 10.x allows administrators to schedule scans per client (right...

The Compliance department at S&P has requested that end users should be able to select which tab is displayed as the default upon logging in. Currently, the Home tab is displayed by default, however, end users do not need to see this tab, they only need to use the Review tab.

In today’s fast-paced world, it can be difficult for organizations to find the resources to adequately train everyone on an IT team. Addressing this, today Symantec launched two new options for purchasing training that will help customers buy the training they need to be successful with Symantec products.   Symantec’s two new training programs – Training Credits and Training Bundles – enable customers to buy exactly the training they need  and use a flexible purchasing system to fit their wants.   The new Training Credits Program enables companies to buy any number of credits, which are then redeemable for any type of training Symantec offers, including public classroom training, private training and Web-based training. Anyone in the organization can redeem the credits, and online tracking is available so management can gauge credit balances and plan accordingly.   Purchasing credits also provides discounts based on the number of credits...

Hi, Can someone tell me whether Wise Installmaster 8.1 still works in Windows 7.  Our company is planning on migrating to Win7somewhere in 2010 and asked me to investigate some of the older tools we are using. I know it's already "ancient" software but it still meets our needs so I would greatly appreciate some feedback on this. Thanks in advance, Kind regards, Chris

Currently, the mysupport website does not allow problems to be submitted for BE 2010.  The latest BE version recognised is BE 12.5.  This should be corrected.

Everyone knows that enterprises today are awash in data, which has created a staggering storage growth problem. That, in turn, has spawned some serious backup and recovery challenges. So far, efforts to tackle these challenges have fallen short. This Tech Brief looks at how Symantec’s approach to data duplication enables organizations to reduce backup storage while providing rapid recovery in the event of a disaster. Shrinking the footprint Although deduplication technology has existed for some time now, many organizations have yet to fully realize the operational and storage efficiencies to be gained through it. Deduplication is a method of retaining only one unique instance of backup data on storage media. Redundant data is replaced with a pointer to the unique data copy. Deduplication occurs on both a file level and a file segment level. When two or more files are identical, deduplication stores only one copy of the file. When two or more files share identical content,...

Microsoft will begin offering a “Web browser choice screen” to Internet Explorer users in Europe, as required by the European Commission.  As reported in  Microsoft on the Issue   "The Browser Choice Screen for Europe: What to Expect, When to Expect It", Microsoft will use Windows Update to provide a browser choice screen to Windows users in Europe who are running Internet Explorer as their default browser. The browser choice screen will present a list of leading browsers. This list is presented in random order. You can also scroll to the right to see additional browsers, which are also presented in random order. For those who prefer Internet Explorer: if you are running an older version (IE 6 or IE 7), Microsoft recommends that you upgrade to the latest version, Internet Explorer 8.
