I have Symantec Deployment Center 5.7.0 install on one server and DHCP setup on our domain controller. I have option 60 set to PXEClient and option 66 set to the ip address of the server with deployment center installed.
I get this error when boot PXE
PXE-E55 Proxy DHCP Service did not reply to request on port 4011
If i put DHCP on the Deployment center computer and use just option 60 it works.
Both servers and client are on the same subnet and there is no router in between so i cant use a IP helper.
What am i missing?

I was unable to find within the support section whether Deploy Center can be installed on a Windows2008 Server.
When i use the CD hte option Ïnstall Deploy Center" does noet appeear within the menu.
On a Windows2003 it does appear and I am able to install it.
Is there a workaround or whitepaper how to install Deploy center on a W2008 Server. It would be very annoying if i had to setup a different deployment server.
Any help / suggestions are appreciated.

I'm having a problem with a ghost image. I took a ghost image from the drive an older computer with a RAID 1 configuration running XP SP2. I then tried to clone it onto a newer drive of a different computer without a RAID configuration. I did this by adding the drive as a secondary drive and running GHOSTOEM32.exe from the main drive and cloning the image to the secondary drive. It said that it succesfully cloned the image.
I am now able to browse the secondary drive and see that it did indeed clone the old drive. However, I am unable to use that drive as the primary drive and boot from it. Instead it tries to boot up but brings up a black screen that reads: "We apologize for the inconvenience but windows did not start successfully....". I am prompted to either start normally or start with the last known good configuration, both of which momentarily flash a blue screen, attempts to start up again, and then brings me back to the...

We have succesfully moved away from using boot CDs (by taking the 6 minutes to setup the 3Com PXE) for starting Ghost and but now I also need to figure out how to send our Linux based Wipe CD to complete the task. I have attached a screenshot of the contents of the ISO. Compared to the boot.sys created by Ghost Boot Wizard that has an easy to edit autoexec.bat, what can I do to send the Wipe CD? Thanks in advance.

I am not sure if the solution suite will allow me to do this or not. Wat I need is a way that I can blast out all my updated software from my server console. For example I have created a custom screen saver, and it has a .exe installer is there a way I can tell it by creating a task to install this .exe into all machines?

Hi All,
I'm having a problem with the "One Click Virtual Partition" image from within GBW .
I have tried creating the image as MS DOS and PC DOS, same failure.
The client it is booting up from is a new DELL T1500 with Broadcom Ndis driver that connects fine.
When the client runs the shortcut it reboots and starts the virtual floppy image, NIC driver loads fine etc but when it comes to the run
Ghost.exe it bombs out with the following message:
Abort!
Exiting due to a signal SIGABRT
Page fault at eip=0053f463, error=0006
(register details omitted here)
program=A:\ghost\ghost.exe
The same parameters run fine and connect to the Ghost Cast Server when booting from CD or USB and connecting to a Ghostcast session, I don't know why
the virtual partition image fails.
I have run in updates for GSS 2.5 b2125, b2141 and b2165. No other updates are available.
I would really like to get this to work as it would be a lot more effective for us to use this method of delivery from with...

Some quick info on the setup I'm running:
-GSS 2.5
-Dell PowerEdge SC1430 running Windows Server 2003 R2: host to DHCP, TFTP, PXE, and GhostCast servers (following the SolarWinds TFTP tutorial).
-Cisco Catalyst WS-2980G 80-port switch.
-WinPE-512 (w/ deploy anywhere) images are pulled from the server via PXE.
-This is an isolated setup, completely free of any outside networking influence, completely dedicated to the purpose of ghosting.
The problem:
-The ultimate goal of the setup was to have the ability to multicast to 10 laptops.
-Adding the switch in between the server and client causes a 10030 when connecting (after entering session name), which does not change for UC/MC/DC.
What's been tried:
-Swapping the expensive switch for a dumb switch (no change).
-Reconfiguring switch to default settings (stopped PXE from pulling a DHCP address at boot up).
-Removing the switch and running a patch cable from server to client (100% successful unicast).
I would be quick to blame drivers in...

I am trying to pull an image of the a Dell T7500 runing Windows XP SP2 64bit. The ghost server sees the PC as connected and will reboot the PC, but it will not write to the virtual partition. I am using the Universal Driver Packet package. I have also tried to run this setup from the onboard NIC and the external NIC. Any ideas would be great. Thank you in advance.

Is there a setting that when a new client is found / added that GSS would get it's inventory so I always don't have computers in the "Inventory not collected" group?

Is there a way to add or remove columns from the default computer list? I don't ever need to know the mac, but the computer description and model would be more helpful.

I am having a problem restoring files with Ghost.I had two computers. A Toshiba Laptop and a TMP Desktop.I have an Iomega external hard drive connected the Desktop. I use this to back up both computers.
I run a separate version of Ghost on each computer. On 23/10/09 I run an Image back up on the Laptop and these files are now on the Iomega.I also ran a File & Folder back up and these are there also:The laptop was stolen yesterday.I need to restore either the Image or the Files & Folder from the 23rd.I have used restore point browser to look at the Image files. When I select the ones from the 23rd they give and error message saying the files are not the right size.If I do the same with an Image file created in September it opens and shows the files. We tried to use the File & Folder option but the files did not show up. I guess this is because the version of Ghost I used to create them was on the Laptop? We used the “Import Backup Destination” option to index the...

Since moving from a roaming profile to a local profile/home directory, we suddenly have the need to make use of the migration features in ghost. I understand the basics of creating migration templates and packages. I have even run a few. However, I would like to narrow down the files that the template is grabbing and I am wondering if what I have in mind is possible.
The template I am using right now is:
$Profile$ (which is stored in the Vista default, C:\Users\UserName\
$Documents$ (which has been redirected to D:\UserName)
$Pictures$ (again, redirected to D:\UserName)
That works well when specifying a domain user in the Migration:Capture tab. But I would like to exclude some folders from the profile, temp folders for example. Is there a way to exclude them with a generalized path? Or do I have to type in a user specific path for each task?
I tried some paths %username%, and that didn't work. Are there other variables that work with ghost besides $Profile$, $Documents$, $...

Hello,
I want to know if it's possible, before starting ghost, if the session call with -ja=session name is free.
I explain : I have a batch menu who run different ghost image with the commande ghost.exe -ja= session name -sure
If the session already in use, ghost repport an error "unable to etablish contact with session "session nam" ", so I want to check in the batch, before running ghost if the session is free.
Is it possible ?
Thank you for your answers.
Best regards,

Hello everbody,
I work with GHOST 11.5 and I want to change an error message. When a session is already in use, another client can't connect to it and i have the message "usage error 10030 : unable to etablish contact with sessions <nameofsession>"
No problem but I would to change this message by "Sorry, serveur is full, please try later".
Is it possible ? Or is it possible to create a waiting queue for users who want to ghost her machine with a session who is already in use ?
Best regards
Manu

Does anyone know which version of drivers are used for Windows PE when constructing a new Ghost Solution Suite WIM file in Ghost Boot Wizard. i.e. is it the Vista, XP, Dos, 2003 versions. Reason for asking is that I need to edit the .INF files before compliling the WIM as need to set default speed to 100FD instead of Auto negotiate and there appears to be multiple .INF files depending on card. Surely only one of them are going to used in Win PE.

I am currently working on a plan to distribute images using Ghost Solution Suite 2.5 to 29,500 workstations. To ensure this is not going to be attempted over the WAN necessitates around 200 server Installations across the enterprise. As management of these need to be done individually on the servers I was wondering if Symantec has any tool that enables multiple Ghost Solution suite servers to be managed from a single interface.

I'm in the process of imaging one of our non-standard machines (HP Probook 4710s) and I cannot get the machine to create an image.
It has a Marvell Yukon 88E8072 NIC. I could not push the Ghost Client through Ghost Console, but instead installed with the CD and the client immediately connected to the server with the Ghost Console installed. The Console can identify the card model and model number, but the IP and Subnet do not show. Addressing is done through DHCP.
I have everything set up for a Marvell Yukon NIC, but when the computer reboots to create the image, the connection fails. The Ghost Console shows the machine in the computer list, and shows that it is connected. I've changed boot orders in the BIOS, created boot cds for the image, but nothing I have tried has seemed to work.
On our HP Desktops, we have the Yukon NIC card profile available through PXE booting, but that did not seem to work either.
Can anyone push me in the right...

I have made an ISO image using the following steps:
PreOS: windows PE (made a copy of WinPE-512 (no errors in extraction) and added a NIC driver (win xp 32bit) for my Latitude E6400 (used driver from CD that came with unit & downloaded current driver).
Standard Ghost Boot Disk
Symantec Ghost
no client settings
IP settings (gave static IP address (not sure what to put for the MAC address, have left empty and put in a MAC)
Create ISO image
When I burn a disk, Windows PE boots without errors & starts Ghost. I try to join a GhostCast (GhostCast Server is running on another pc in the same VLAN) Ghost errors out & says it can't connect. I click on the command prompt windows tiled behind Ghost & try an 'ipconfig'. All I receive is a line stating 'Windows IP Configuration'. From what I can tell the NIC isn't working correctly.
What am I doing wrong?
Can someone throw me a bone?

Hi
I'm working from a printed guide "Installing a boot partition"
I've followed it as much as possible. Its had some differences. I am currently using version 2.5.
I've loaded the client on a new clean working laptop.
I've created a boot disk
I've pulled an image.
I've created a boot partition and have sent it to other laptop clones
I've even loaded the "base windows xp image" on the clones successfully with individual configurations.
Now the problem comes when I run a task to re-image all the computers. I execute that task and they get the pop up warning about the computer may be rebooting in X seconds.
Then nothing........ they just sit there and never reboot and about 20 minutes later the server times out the task.
any help is greatly appreciated. I'm at a loss.
Thanks,
Rich S

Hi
I'm new to this forum, I've read most of discussion talking about GSS and mulicasting but none were exactly about our problem. We just migrated to GSS 2.5 from 1.1 and we encounter new issues.
I'll try to give as much infos as I can not being natively bilingual...
We use GSS2.5 on a M3N WS Realtek chipset Gb plugged in a GB switch linked to our head switch. OS: XP SP3 up to date. Live update OK latest build.
Our clients : M3N78, nForce based architecture with AMD Athlon 4870e 2Go RAM, Nvidia 8200 GS builtin and nforce Sata controller, nforce GB NIC, NForce netwk bus enum.
Clients are all the same, with XP SP3 up to date and Xubuntu 8.10 UTD too. Dual boot with partitions like this : sda1 (win) sda2 (swap) <sda5> (Xub) grub on MBR version 0.97
We also have older clients A8VE SE Athlon XP 3600+, marvell yukon NIC gigabit, chipset VIA and M2NVM DVI nforce based, same model as M3N but chipset 730a 6th series instead of 7th series.
Image created with client : size 19Go with about...
