Has anyone had success imaging ubuntu from/to a first generation intel imac? The computer I'm cloning from works perfectly but when I take an image of it and then clone another intel iMac the former tries to boot and then just constantly writes 'grub' to the screen! I have tried using the -ib -nolilo -fmbr switches with no success. I'm sure this has something to do with using MBR over GPT but I just don't know how to solve it. HELP!

Hello all,
We just upgraded around 100 pc's from 256 MB to 1GB of RAM.
We just now tryed to push the image we used for some time to one of the upgraded machines but in the mini setup there is an error with something in the registry so i wont continue.
If we flip back the 256MB there isnt a problem with the image.
Any ideas about what can give such a problem?
Thank you!

I'm working on a system so i can force images to pc's
I'm so far that i can push ghost images to a client pc.
But when i do that, i still have to get trough the GUI and select GhostCast -> Multicasting and then the information.
Is there a way to fill this in automaticly? Like with switches?
I already been trough the list of switches but i cant find the right one.
Can anyone help me with this?

Hello,
I'm new to this Ghost Suite Solution 2.5
I'm really doing baby steps at the moment especially when it comes to the Ghost Console it's quite complicated, anyway i wanted to make a standard bootdisk DVD with the Image file on it as well, i know you can do it. So I added the *.GHO file only when it asked about adding additional files because i'll need another DVD the other 2 files and thought i'll just put the file on the bootable dvd first. When i come to make it it says "an upexperted error has occurred. Please check that the target is not read only and that there is enough space on the disk"............ I'm doing it on our Windows 2008 Server and with a DVD-R Disk.
Help??
Cheers
James

In some cases you may want to use Linux as Pre-OS environment and you need to know how Linux names the computers drives to restore automatically your image from CD/DVD
Things you will need before you start:
Blank CD/DVDs
A completed ghost image (.gho)
Please Note the following requirements revolving around the ghost image.
This image file must be split so that the first .gho file will fit on the DVD.
If the image spans to one or more .ghs files the image must be named with precisely 5 alphabetical characters. For this example the name IMAGE.GHO is used.
If the image is greater than 2 GB, it must be spanned and the spans must not be more than 2 GB. This is due to industry standards for ISOs, which limits a single file included in an ISO to 2 GB or less.
When adding the image files using the ghost boot wizard the total data including the ghost boot files must be less than 4 gigs on disk 1.
In order to create a working boot DVD with the image included on the same disk, you will need...

I am using Ghost Solution Suite 2.5, with all the latest updates. (This includes GhostCast Server 11.5.0.2113.)
I have been loading this image onto several machines using a simple boot disk and manually starting the GhostCast session on the client. Now I am trying to automate it all by adding the necessary switches to the Ghost32 command line on the boot disk.
I thought I had all the same switches, but on machines using my original boot disks, the image loads just fine. However, on a machine using my new boot disk (connected to the exact same GhostCast session from the server), it stops and prompts for the next segment. Of course, I cannot get to the next segment because I'm using GhostCast; if I cancel on that machine, the other machines continue on their merry way.
Here is the manual steps I was doing on the original boot disks:
I had the -noide switch built into the command to start Ghost.
When Ghost starts, I go into options and...

Greetings,
Is there a way to have the default directory for the User Migration files be on a network share?
SETTING:
TOOLS-OPTIONS-PREFERENCES-USER MIGRATION
From there I browse to place a path, after having mapped a network share, but it will not let me select it.
Best Regards,

Greetings,
Within the Ghost console by default I can perform user migrations but not Backup's or Images from the Console for HP DC7900's with Intel 82567lm-3 network cards.
We have 5000 of these machines and I'm sure other users on this forum do as well as it's HP's enterprise and business class model.
First:
Is this supported, which it should be, and if so please publish a update to "Live Update" asap so this can get corrected without the series of steps I've seen which are required.
Second:
Please provide clear A-Z steps to include the download link for the drivers etc.
I.E.
1) Go "here" and download X
2) Extract files and place at X location
etc
Best Regards,

After I upgraded the Ghost Console to 11.5, all of the connected clients showed the exclamation point icon showing that the client software was out of date. When I try to execute a task, the task first tried to update the client, the 'client upgrade' completes successfully, but the 'run product upgrade' command fails. I can not unistall the clients, it gives an error (73): Installation: Msiexec failed with error: 1603. And I can not remote install the client, it gives the error (40): Ghost installed: There already is version of Ghost installed on this computer:
Any ideas on how to fix this issue? The ideal fix would be to get the first method to work to allow the upgrade to install and run correctly automatically. It isn't completely out of the question to touch all the clients, but I would like to avoid that at all costs because there are a hundred or so of them.
Thank you for your help!

Greetings,
I have 1000 pc's, which I have in a text file, that I need to install the ghost client on.
I'd previouslly done this with a simple batch file GUI that let me import the text file though I have sence forgot what I used.
I'm needing
1) Ghost batch file
2) Batch file processing GUI that will allow me to import the txt file of computer names.
Also, FYI, I can't do it with the "Remote Client Install" it's due to our network and that won't change so that is not an option.
Any Help Greatly appreciated.
Best Regards,

Greetings,
I'm executing User Captures with a User Migration Template.
Is there a way to have this do a check and not have a new .ump file created each time I do a backup.
I.E. "For instance" if I backup 20Gb of a user's data on WEEK1 and only one file changes, on WEEK2 how to I capture that updated file in the same .ump?
I have 1000 pc's to backup, 2TB user data, 3 TB storage, soo after 1 backup I would be out of space and would have to start deleting the first backup's to make room for the 2nd.
Additionally, that will be an extreme amount of extra network traffic to capture all the data each time.
Any help would be Greatly Appreciated.
USING Ghost Console v11.5.0.2113 or "2.5"
Best Regards,

hey everyone,
I upgraded to GGS 2.5 because I liked the idea of a the hot imaging. Too many times I couldn't get the DOS to work on a couple of our machines, and one of the machines would lock up if I did a direct local backup in DOS.
Here is my setup:
Host:
Win 7 Ultimate
Client:
Vista home premium
I began the pull by executing the task in Ghost console. It says the client has connected, but nothing happens. I let it sit for about 10 minutes.
Any advice?
Jared

I recently installed Windows XP SP 3 oin my new laptop (Dell Studio 1555) and necxt installed Ghost 2003 after all device drivers for the OS were installed. I normally create a Ghost image DVD affter a new O/S is installed so I can always get back to a working system in short order.
This time when I went inbot Ghost it's normal menu in PC DOS came up but it is stuck in a loop and won't clone, go inot ghost or go back to Windows.
Instead, it seems to freeze up when I hit either option. It says in option 2 to go back to windows but it says returning to windowws and just never get's there.
How do I get out of this loop and get back inbto windows? I have read everything I can find and I have a hunch there is a problem with the Ghost instalation or perhaps it hangs from a device driver in DOS mode? I'm guessing because I've used Ghost a number of years and never seen anything like this before.
Any ideas? I need to get this fixed ASAP as this is my main system and I...

Is HFS+ support planned in future GSS versions? Mac cloning tools are somewhat behind the PC world.
I think that a version of ghost supporting HFS would see many people interested.

I'm new. Hello.
I'm following Xan Todd's Ghost PXE guide: https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/ins...
I did have success booting to the Ghost application. I also successfully found the Ghost server session. I even successfully restored a single computer via multicast (normal speed). My problem is when I try to restore multiple computers. When I attempt to restore images to 2 or more computers, all computers fail except for one...and that one computer restore takes quite a while to complete. I have found documentation stating similar problems but no solutions...I am afraid I might be at a dead end. I have heard that the first place to go is firewalls, but Windows firewall is turned off and my Netopia firewall is set to allow all traffic (not a production environment).
I'm attempting to restore to 12 Dell a860's with Realtek 8101e NIC. UNDI appears to work fine until I actually image multiple computers. I can select the session I created in the Ghost application, and...

We're managing roughly thirty computers and regularly need to reimage the machines, as it's a lab enviornment. Nevertheless, upon the deployment of an image to one lab (roughly 13-16 PC's), the network becomes completely unusable for both lab enviornments. Therefore, we must wait until the end of the day to reimage.
Right now the network is situated so that both lab enviornments share a single T1, which is plugged into a Netgear FVS318 Router; the router handles all DCHP for the lab. The Ghost Server is directly plugged into the Netgear Router and there are two Linksys SR224 swiches, which handle both lab enviornments.
Should the Ghost server be plugged into one of the two classroom switches, rather than directly into the router? Is there another configuation of the network that would work better? Is there a setting which I need to modify within the router like RIP, or RIP Directon?
Thanks in advance,
CF

All,
I have 5 servers that i am using Ghost Soultions Suite 2.5 (11.5.0.2141) to manage. I have applied all 3 updates manually (this system is not connected to the internet) All are using the WinPE-512 preOS.
I have a single server that will not work correctly. It is an Compaq DL580.
Using the Ghost Console, i can set a image create task for my server in question. The server will reboot to the preOS, obtain an IP, and contact the Ghost Server. However - the ngctw32 command window will pop up and ultimatly get stuck in a loop saying this:
10.0.1.1:1346 disconnecting from 10.0.1.100:1347
10.0.1.1:1346 sending status to 10.0.1.100:1347
