I have continue to receive the blue screen crash every time I start my computer. After installing Norton 360, about 7 months later I began having the blue screen crash. Is it possible that my Norton product is causing that? Also, around the same time period before the crash, I have installed windows security updates and Internet explorer 8 update. Is it possible that these things are causing this problem? I have attatched a detail description that I got from the blue screen crash.
If anyone has an answer to this or a solution, please let me know. Also, if you are replying back, please tell the the information in simplest form, I sometimes do not understand all of this computer stuff.

Trying to install HPCM for the first time, meet all the prerequisites but the installation errors out at this point. Anybody have any ideas why or where to start looking?
Cheers,

I'm a little confused as to which of these does what. To summerise what I think:
1. Instant Support Health Scan checks for software updates.
2. Instant Support Diagnostics checks for hardware issues.
3. Health monitoring... uh, I'm not sure. It looks to be similar to Instant Support Diagnostics. I'm also unsure what the schedule for this feature does and it looks like the Altiris Agents automatically report back on the selected software settings.
Can anyone explain these three, especially Health Monitoring?

I haven't been able to successfully update my HP Tools. While the download appears to work successfully, the Altiris Log (attached) reveals that it is receiving a 404 every time it tries to download a CAB. Also, no web version number is displayed for the tools and there's another error in the logs indicating that the page was unsuccessful in attempting to download an XML file (presumably providing version numbers and download locations) because the remote host did not respond.
I am running HPCM 7 w/ SP1 and KB46262

Having run a Health Scan on a number of machines, 10 SoftPaqs were detected as required. I downloaded these SoftPaqs and then loaded the SoftPaq Wizard, but no SoftPaqs were displayed for deployment. Cancelling the wizard I verified that the SoftPaqs were in the file store location and ran a SoftPaq import. I could see the CVA files being generated but when I ran the SoftPaq Wizard again I still couldn't see any SoftPaqs to be deployed.
I'm running HPCM w/ SP1 and KB46262 on a Windows 2003 Std SP2 server.

Hi Everyone ,
i'm Using RDP 6.8 and i've a problem with the partitioning during a system deployment.
The jobpart is defined to deploy a NTFS image to the harddisk. The properties are set to 20 GB .
Problem is when the deployment of the OS has finished the partition has not 20 GB.
It took the whole disk.

I want to do a phased rollout of the Altiris Agent rather than a big bang, but I can't find an easy way to achieve this. I am trying to setup a filter which automatically includes all computers in OU X or group Y. Is HP Client manager aware of AD at all, beyond picking computers out of it?

Prelude
Initially, I wrote this about Backup Exec, because that's where I ran into this problem. I'm also a SAV & SEP veteran but don't recall seeing this heinous language in their KB articles. So maybe it's a Veritas thing. But, whatever...
...then it occurred to me that while BE may (or may not) be the only Symantec enterprise product to which the symptom applies, the cure is universal. Because it bridges a huge gap between the goals of Symantec Sales, Support, Connect, Knowledge Base, and Product Managers. So I've taken the unusual-and-hopefully-not-presumptuous step of tagging it to all available products. It is global.
That kinda makes it Ideas spam, I know. Never done it before; probably never will again. Hope you can forgive me!
Don Quixote Battles Symantec
Two KB articles I've browsed recently contain variations on this boilerplate (emphasis mine):
"There are currently no plans to address this issue by way of a patch or hotfix in the...

When running the advanced config wizard for the BIOS, there are check boxes for the 7 days of the week, but not the actual power on time. Is there any way to use HPCMS 6.2 to configure power on settings? Am I just missing something? I verified a client machine has a setting named "BIOS Power On Time" and it has sent inventory to the NS.

I have run the HP Local Alerts Configuration Task a few times now and it removes the icon from the taskbar for a period of time but it evenetually comes back. I don't want the clients to have any icons or notifications in their taskbar. I'm not farmiliar with Altiris or NS much at all. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Thank you very much.

I've set up HP Client Manager on Altiris NS 6.5 but I'm running into problems. So I made a job using the BIOS Administration Wizard. It sets an admin password, Wake on Lan, Boot Order.
So I re-image my laptop and watch the Altiris Agent. It runs inventory, etc, eventually I see the BIOS job I created appear. Eventually it runs, and says Run Completed.
However it does not make any changes to the BIOS. I looked at the command/run line and it is this:
..\..\{8b7443bb-7b4a-4cc7-b02e-36ec01d3b42c}\cache\HPCMSExec.exe biosadmin start {5be1bfbd-6514-4683-8d13-88c99be39a62} new:4547A18C3B774E65 wol:enable
Well since this wasn't working I started to debug. I looked at ..\..\{8b7443bb-7b4a-4cc7-b02e-36ec01d3b42c}\cache\HPCMSExec.exe on the server, and it exists. No files exist in cache on my computer itself under software delivery/{GUID}/cache. But since the program actually runs, I've determined that it is probably running directly from my server.
So I ran HPCMSExec.exe debug...

Hello,
Environment:
Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2
Altiris DS 6.9 SP2
Altiris NS 6.0.6074 (SP3 + R11)
Latest Version of HP Client Manager
SQL Server 2005 Latest SP
I've followed all the steps:
1. Set Altiris Agent Install
2. Enabled HPCM
3. Set Inventory Settings
4. Added some SoftPaqs
5. Set Basic BIOS Settings
I can't set the Advanced BIOS Settings because it says I need to do an inventory, but I have the inventory set correctly. I look over the reporting and it doesn't look like any of the machines have gotten inventory, or even the Altiris Agent. All the machines listed look like very old machines.
DS works for us great. We've never done very much through NS. Is there a setting somewhere that I may be missing?
I basically just want to set advanced BIOS settings and deploy BIOS updates. It never states how those work, though. Does it reboot the machine? Does it do it silently and then install when the machine is...

I've done a fresh install of HPCM 7 SP1 and run through the initial steps of configuring the license, detecting the PCs, etc. Now I'm trying to run an HP Health Scan after verifying that the HP Insight Diagnostics pack was successfully installed (as verified from both server and client).
Problem is, each time I set a task to run, be it a Health Scan or Inventory Task, though the schedule lists 1 target machine the number of computers is listed as 0. After a minute of the task running the output says 0 failed, 0 succeeded, 0 everything. The agent on the client machine just sits in Waiting for Task mode, it never registers that the server is trying to get it to do something. This happens whether I force the scheduled task to run or run it via a Quick Add.
Any ideas? The client computer has registered with the server and the installation of packages is occuring without issue, it's just when I try to run a task I have problems.

All of a sudden I cannot run tasks on the clients that I am testing with. I want to try rebooting the server to see if this helps. Does anyone know what I need to do in order to safely reboot the server? Thank you. This is HPCM 7 on Windows Server 2003.

On a new install of HPCM 7 I am doing an Active Directory Import but I am only getting the entire AD tree (not any of the computers). Any ideas on what would cause this? Thank you.

While reinstalling HPCM 7.1 I get an error involving the MibImport task.
The logs show this and a few other things: Source: Altiris.NS.Installation.ProductConfigurationWorker.ConfigureProductInternal
Description: Failed to import the item from the file [C:\Program Files\Altiris\MibImportTask\Config\MibImportTask.config]
Does anyone have any ideas at all?
Thanks.

Does anyone know if HPCM 7.0 can be used with a 2008 Domain Controller? It's not in the drop down list of domain type in "Active Directory Import" and I'm having issues getting the AD list to import. Does anyone have experience with this yet? Thanks!

When posting to the fora and even Symantec technical support; it would be realy useful if you could run a little report (either in SIM or Altiris itself) that was able to give an environment summary in a standard format. This would detail hardware, OS and solution information in a standard format, thereby making it easier for everybody involved to see at a glance all the basic information they would need before diving in any further. I know Enterprise Vault has a tool that can do something along these lines. Please forgive me if there is already something that can do this... then let me know what, where and how...

David

Error being given is: 'SP38166','ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp38001-38500/sp38166.exe','Exception of type \'System.Exception\' was thrown.','25575720','25575720','25575720'
I've looked up the software updates page for the nc6400 (which HPCM is saying this update applies to) and there is no mention of sp38166, which is supopsed to be for "Update the Quick Launch Button Software for Pavilion and Presario notebook PCs," according to a general search on the HP Web site for sp38166.
sp38166 also doesn't appear to be available for download on the above mentioned ftp site.
I've found sp38200, which is als for "HP Quick Launch Buttons Critical Security Update ".
Does anybody know what's going on here?
Cheers,
David.

I created a NS Task to change the BIOS order from HD to LAN through the HPCM BIOS Wizard in NS. I have deployed the HPCM client out to our computers, and once the computer checks in to see if there are any tasks for it to run, it sees the BIOS Change Task, but reports back "Failed to Start." It keeps trying it but end up with "Failed to Start". Does anyone know how to resolve this?
